Appendix 1: Examination specifications

Unit DNG / 01A - Understand core gas safety principles for natural gas within domestic building services engineering

Number of questions: 50 Time allowed: 1 hour 40 minutes


Note: permitted normative reference documents for use by learners in this examination are specified below
Each test will cover the knowledge learning outcomes of the unit as follows:

6 Know how to test for tightness of a gas pipework system and purge the system 20%

• BS 6891 Installation of low pressure gas pipework of up to 35 mm (R1 1/4) in domestic premises (2nd family gas).
• Essential Gas Safety – Domestic (7th Edition) (CORGI Direct) or equivalent

Other reference materials can be used, however, they must be normative, industry or legislative source publications, or
materials adapted or adopted form training programmes or other sources provided they require gas safety knowledge to be
used to select the information needed to demonstrate competence.
