How to use the above Vedic Chanting Learning Modules?

Vedic chanting is learnt primarily by listening. This is why the Vedas are called SHRUTI. For each lesson, click on
the LEARNING MODULE link first. The LEARNING MODULE is a PLAYLIST containing several videos –
Introduction in 3 languages, Starting Prayer, and the LEARNING MODE AUDIO(s) for that topic). Listen to the
Introduction first. Listen to the Starting Prayer (Ganapathy Prarthana) etc. once daily, at the beginning of your practice
session. After this, you should listen to the LEARNING MODE AUDIO at least 2 to 3 times daily, while following
it in your book / text. After the first 3 days, try to follow and chant / repeat along with the audio. After the first 5 to 7
days, start listening to the NORMAL MODE AUDIO for the same topic. But do NOT stop listening to the
LEARNING MODE AUDIO. Use the LEARNING MODE and NORMAL MODES alternately – one practice
session with LEARNING MODE and the next session with NORMAL MODE, and so on.
Spend minimum 7 days practicing each new topic along with the audios, before you start the next topic. REGULAR,
DAILY REPEATED PRACTICE USING THE AUDIOS IS MOST IMPORTANT. After a few days, try to repeat
along with the audio WITHOUT looking at the text. Or you may chant along with the audio – once with the text and
once without the text. Especially, people under the age of 30 should try to STOP using the book once they are familiar
For FREE audios of Vedas, Stotrams, Sahasranamam, Bhagavad Gita, Easy Samskritam Lessons, subscribe to:

with the words and pronunciation – you will be able to memorize the chanting faster. You may occasionally refer to
the book, if required. Whenever possible, practice in a group by chanting along with the audios.
Every time you start a new Lesson, do NOT stop practicing the previous lessons. When you start a new lesson, you
may reduce the frequency of practicing the previous lessons to once per day, and practice the latest lesson several
times per day – but never skip the previous lessons.

SECTION 3. BOOK / TEXT FOR THE ABOVE MANTRAS

Link to a PDF book containing these in Devanagari is given below. Those who wish can print and use this book:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1t78gMkVxytZisYUsZDHCROe8wrzpWElf/view?usp=sharing

Please note that we have the text only in Devanagari (link given above). If you need the text in any other language /
script, YOU are responsible to get your own text for these Mantras for yourself. All the topics listed for this class
(see list of topics above) are fairly common Vedic Mantras and you should be able to get the text easily.
If you already have the text, you can use it. Another excellent source text in Devanagari is the book
MANTRAPUSHPAM (published by Ramakrishna Math). Giri Trading / Giri Stores (website www.giri.in) which is
present in several cities in India also has books containing Sukthams and Rudram / Chamakam in Sanskrit, Tamil,
Malayalam, Kannada, etc. Malayalam users can also use books published by R.S. Vadhyar Publishers. You can also
check with other shops selling religious / spiritual books, or check online. Please make sure you have the book / text
available with you in a language script of your choice before the class starts. Please make sure that your book has
Swaram markings. Once again, you are expected to make your own arrangement to have the text with you for the
topics listed for this class.
If you know of a good source for the text in your language, you can post the link to the PDF or website URL as a
comment in the YouTube channel https://youtube.com/ArunHLearnVedaSanskrit , for the benefit of
other participants. Before sharing, make sure that it has specifically all or most of the topics listed for this class, and
that it has Swaram markings. One such external source for text in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and English recommended
by some subscribers is a website called stotranidhi.com . Please note that our Channel will NOT be able to verify the
contents of external sources – you must do your own verification before using external content.

SECTION 4: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

1. When did the VIRTUAL VEDA CLASS start?

The class started from 5th July 2020 (Vyasa Pooja day). However, as it is VIRTUAL, you can join any time and learn
at your convenient time and pace, using our special LEARNING MODE AUDIOS. Daily, regular practice by listening
to these AUDIOS will help you become a perfect Vedic chanter.

2. What is taught?

3. WHERE will the VIRTUAL VEDA CLASS be conducted?

It is VIRTUAL, so you can attend the class from wherever you want, whenever you want. The class will be conducted
on our YouTube channel https://youtube.com/ArunHLearnVedaSanskrit . You can follow all the lessons
by just using this single document, as it contains all the information and links.

4. HOW will the Vedic chanting be taught?

You will be provided special pre-recorded LEARNING MODE audio-lessons. In the learning mode, speed is slightly
slower than normal, and each line is repeated 3 times to help beginners learn. You can learn and practice using these
audios at your own convenient time. One lesson per week will be sent, so that you can learn comfortably. YOU ARE
EXPECTED TO PRACTICE DAILY. Those who can devote about 30 minutes every morning and evening regularly
(one hour a day) should be able to start chanting well soon. Most people can learn Vedic Chanting easily and quickly
by joining this class and with regular and repeated daily practice using the Learning Mode Audios. Once you are
familiar with the chanting, you will also be provided NORMAL MODE audios (without repeat) for the same topics.

5. HOW do I enroll for the class? WHERE can I get the special LEARNING MODE audios?
To enroll, you must subscribe to our
YouTube channel at the following link:
https://youtube.com/ArunHLearnVedaSanskrit . To subscribe, click on the channel link and then click
on the SUBSCRIBE button. Visit this channel daily. After you are inside this YouTube channel, click on
COMMUNITY. The Veda Class lessons and related information are posted here from time to time. Links to the pre-
recorded Learning Modules containing our SPECIAL LEARNING MODE AUDIO-lessons are posted here every
Sunday. Relevant information and announcements are posted there regularly – so visit COMMUNITY daily. Once
you subscribe to this YouTube channel, you are automatically enrolled for the class. You do NOT have to complete
any other formalities. You will NOT receive any confirmation message – it is not required.

6. WHAT ARE THE CLASS TIMINGS?

You decide your own timings according to your convenience. BUT BE REGULAR AND PRACTICE DAILY. For
your convenience and to enable you to learn at your own time and speed, the teaching will be through pre-recorded
special LEARNING MODE VEDIC CHANTING AUDIOS, as mentioned above. This will also enable you to
practice as many times as you want by listening to the learning audios multiple times. It is strongly recommended
For FREE audios of Vedas, Stotrams, Sahasranamam, Bhagavad Gita, Easy Samskritam Lessons, subscribe to:
https://youtube.com/ArunHLearnVedaSanskrit 5|P a g e
that you have two practice sessions daily – one in the morning and one in the evening.

7. How long should I use the book / text?

To learn Vedic chanting perfectly, one has to learn by LISTENING repeatedly. YOU CANNOT LEARN VEDIC
CHANTING FROM A BOOK / TEXT. This is why the Vedas are called SHRUTI (that which is HEARD). You can
use your book / text for reference initially, but children, youngsters and everybody under the age of 30 should try to
STOP using the text after a few days of practice - once they are confident that they have got the words right. They
should practice just by listening daily to the audio and chanting along. Beyond a point, the text is actually an
impediment to LISTENING carefully. So, STOP USING THE BOOK / TEXT as soon as possible – and practice by
listening to the AUDIOs. Older people, of course, can continue to use your text as long as you like, along with the
audio – or try to alternate listening to the audios once with the book and the next time without the book.

8. Once I get the NORMAL MODE AUDIO, should I stop listening to the LEARNING MODE AUDIO?
NO, do NOT stop using the LEARNING MODE AUDIO. After the first 5 to 7 days (provided you have practiced
several times daily with the LEARNING MODE AUDIOS), you should practice alternately – once with the
NORMAL mode and once with the LEARNING mode. Do NOT stop listening to the LEARNING MODE AUDIOS.

9. How much time do I need to dedicate to learning Vedas?

This class is for those who have a passion for learning Vedic Chanting with correct Uchharanam (pronunciation) and
Swaram (intonation). For effective learning, you need to dedicate at least 30 minutes every morning and evening (one
hour each day) to practice, without any distractions. As with learning anything, it is your genuine interest, passion
and regular, repeated practice that will help you to become good at Veda chanting.

10. How should I practice?

Vedic chanting is learnt primarily by listening. A special LEARNING MODE AUDIO lesson for one topic (typically
one Mantram) is sent every week – every Sunday beginning from 5th July 2020 (in exceptional circumstances, there
may be a slight delay). For the next 7 days, you should listen to the audio at least 2 to 3 times daily, while following
it in your book / text. After the first 3 days, try to follow and chant / repeat along with the audio. REGULAR, DAILY
REPEATED PRACTICE USING THE AUDIOS IS MOST IMPORTANT. After a few days, try to repeat along with
the audio WITHOUT looking at the text. Or you may chant along with the audio – once with the text and once without
the text. Especially, people under the age of 30 should try to STOP using the book once they are familiar with the
words and pronunciation – you will be able to memorize the chanting faster. You may occasionally refer to the book,
if required. Whenever possible, practice in a group by chanting along with the audios.
If you missed any lessons, don’t worry – links to all previous lessons are given in this document.

11. Will there by LIVE sessions?

Live group practice sessions may be organized occasionally. However, the primary means of learning will be the
recorded audios, so that you can learn at your own convenience, and repeat the practice by playing the audios as many
times as you want and whenever you want. Pre-recorded audios also make more sense, considering that participants
from over 35 countries across different time zones are participating in the VIRTUAL VEDA CLASS.

12. What if I need guidance for my Vedic chanting practice?

Please send your question as a comment on our YouTube channel. Do NOT phone or send WhatsApp questions. Due
to the large number of participants, we are unable to take phone calls or answer WhatsApp questions. Answers to
questions from participants will be answered on the channel or compiled into FAQs and posted on the YouTube

channel https://youtube.com/ArunHLearnVedaSanskrit from time to time. Individual answers may not
be sent if the question has already been answered previously, or in the FAQs. There may be some time lag in
answering your questions. Please bear with us for this, and do NOT send the same question more than once. Read all
previous FAQs and announcements BEFORE sending your question, because it might have already been answered
earlier.

13. Is there any starting prayer that I need to say before my daily chanting / practice sessions?
Yes. A 2-minute starting prayer is chanted at the beginning of every session of Veda Chanting. The text is in the first
2 pages of the Devanagari PDF Veda Class book mentioned earlier in this document. People who need the text in
other language scripts pls arrange for the text on your own asap. The link to the audio of this prayer is given below.
This audio is in normal mode (not in learning / repeat mode), but you can learn it with daily listening:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KI1oy3Y7NCE&t=64s

14. Will meanings of Vedic Mantras be taught?

The main purpose of this class is to help participants to learn chanting of Vedic Mantras with correct Swaram
(intonation) and Uchharanam (pronunciation). A brief introduction to each Mantra and its significance will be given.
Detailed meanings will not be covered in this class.

15. What are the Enrolment formalities? Will I receive a confirmation that I am enrolled to the class?

If you are a subscriber to our YouTube channel https://youtube.com/ArunHLearnVedaSanskrit , OR if

you are on one of our WhatsApp groups named VIRTUAL VEDA CLASS Grp 1, 2, 3… etc. it means that you are
automatically enrolled for the class. You will NOT receive any confirmation, and there are no other formalities. So,
if you are a subscriber to the above YouTube channel, please do NOT send messages asking about your enrollment
– you are automatically enrolled when you subscribed to the channel.

16. WILL I MISS SOMETHING IF I AM NOT ON A WHATSAPP GROUP?

NO. AS LONG AS YOU HAVE SUBSCRIBED TO THE YOUTUBE CHANNEL, YOU WILL NOT MISS
ANYTHING. Due to the huge response to the VIRTUAL VEDA CLASS, we have stopped creating WhatsApp
groups. BUT, YOU WILL NOT MISS ANYTHING. Please note that THE SAME LESSONS AND INFORMATION
will be shared on this channel as well as on the WhatsApp groups. It is the SAME CLASS - not two different classes.
Subscribers to this channel can join the Veda Class directly, even without being on any WhatsApp group. So DO
NOT WORRY if you are not on our WhatsApp groups - you can attend the Veda Class directly from here. Just click
on COMMUNITY once you are inside the YouTube channel - and keep coming back daily for updates and
information. The lessons are shared there weekly from 5th July 2020 onwards.

17. How can I ensure that the AUDIOS are clearly audible?
You will be able to hear the audios clearly on most devices. As it is important to listen to them clearly and repeatedly
to learn the chanting correctly, it is recommended that you use a device with good quality audio on which you can
hear the chanting clearly. Most smartphones will play clearly, but if you have the option, you may want to use a
device with bigger or external speakers for higher volume and clarity.

18. HOW CAN I ACCESS THE VEDA CLASS LESSONS?

contains the Learning Module with the lesson for that week, along with a description of the Module contents and
instructions on how to use it. New lessons are posted every Sunday. You are expected to practice DAILY and
REPEATEDLY using the special LEARNING MODE AUDIOS that are provided for each Mantra on our syllabus.
Also make sure you visit this space at least once daily to check for information or updates about the VIRTUAL
VEDA CLASS. Please read this FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) document carefully. It will help you get
maximum benefit from the VIRTUAL VEDA CLASS.

19. I enrolled late. How can I get the previous lessons which I missed?
This document has links to all previous lessons. The document is updated regularly and re-posted on our YouTube
channel from time to time. To ensure that you don’t miss previous lessons or any other information, just subscribe
to our YouTube channel. After subscribing, visit the channel DAILY. When you are inside the channel, click on
COMMUNITY. Lessons, updates and information are posted here from time to time. Moreover, when you click on
COMMUNITY, you will be able to see there itself, previous lessons and information that has been posted there –
even the ones posted before you subscribed. Thus, we have multiple ways of ensuring that you do not miss anything.

20. Will I also get the NORMAL MODE AUDIOS (without repeat) for these Mantras? Once I get the
NORMAL MODE AUDIO, should I stop listening to the LEARNING MODE AUDIO?
Yes, after you have practiced daily (at least 2 to 3 times a day) for a week or so, you will get the NORMAL MODE
AUDIO for the same Mantra. After the first week (provided you have practiced daily with the LEARNING MODE
AUDIOS), you should practice alternately – once with the NORMAL mode and once with the LEARNING mode.
Do NOT stop listening to the LEARNING MODE AUDIOS.

21. How long will it take me to learn all the 13 Mantras?

It depends on YOU. Those who have real passion for Vedic chanting and who practice daily morning and evening
WITHOUT DISTRACTIONS, regularly and repeatedly should be able to chant all 13 Mantras in the syllabus in a
year or so.

22. Why don’t you display the text for the Mantras on the Video itself?
Some subscribers have suggested showing the text (lyrics) as part of the video itself. Text or "lyrics" are
intentionally not given here because, in order to learn Vedic chanting perfectly, one has to learn by LISTENING
repeatedly. This is why the Vedas are called SHRUTI. You can use your own book / text, but children, youngsters
and everybody under the age of 30 should try to STOP using the text after a few days of practice - once they are
confident that they have got the words right. They should practice just by listening daily to the audio and chanting
along. Beyond a point, the text is actually a distraction to LISTENING carefully. Older people, of course, can
continue to use your text as long as you like, along with the audio.

23. Some beginners may find the NORMAL MODE audios a bit fast in the beginning. Can you do something
about this?
Yes, it’s easy. If some beginners find the NORMAL MODE audios a bit fast in the beginning, you can reduce the
speed in YouTube. When the video is playing, click on SETTINGS (the gear icon just below the video). Then click
on Playback speed and select 0.75. This will make the audio play slower so that you can practice comfortably. For

your practice, please listen to the LEARNING MODE and the NORMAL MODE alternately. After a few days, once
you are more familiar with the chanting, you can stop adjusting the playback speed and let it play at its normal speed.

24. What if my friend or relative wants to join the VIRTUAL VEDA CLASS?
They are welcome. Just forward this document to them, as it contains all the information they need. Ask them to
subscribe to our YouTube channel. Once they subscribe, they are automatically enrolled. They need to click on
COMMUNITY (after they are inside the channel) daily. The Veda lessons in the form of pre-recorded SPECIAL
LEARNING MODE AUDIOS, and other information will be posted here from time to time. Ask them to read this
document first.

25. What else can I find on your YouTube channel, in addition to the VIRTUAL VEDA CLASS?
Our YouTube channel has a HUGE collection of FREE audios of Vedas, Stotrams, Vishnu Sahasranamam, Lalitha
Sahasranamam, Bhagavad Gita and basic Samskritam-language lessons. When you are inside the channel, click on
PLAYLISTS and check out the topics of your interest.

26. Occasionally, I find some minor differences between my book / text and the audios? Which is correct?
On rare occasions, you may find some minor differences between the text and the audio. If you are using our PDF
Veda Class book or a book from a reputed publisher, these are NOT mistakes. They are what are called PATHA-
BHEDA or minor regional differences in chanting practices. For example - some books may have a short Shanti
Mantra before the actual Suktham starts (e.g. before Purusha Suktham or Medha Suktham), but this may or may not
be there in the audio. Another example - Sri Suktham has a Phalashruti at the end, but the portion given in the audio
is what is commonly chanted at most places. The order of the lines “Aardram Yah Karineem…” and “Aardram
Pushkarineem…” in Sri Suktham are sometimes interchanged. Sometimes, the Gayatri Mantram of that particular
Devi or Devata is chanted at the end of a Suktham in the Audio, but it may not be in your text.

In such cases, do not worry - neither the book nor the audio is "wrong". If you already know the chanting as given
in your text, you may continue chanting that way. Otherwise, chant as given in the audio.

Such differences are rare exceptions only, you will not find any difference in most of the Mantras.

27. How can I get updated versions of this document in future?

This document is updated from time to time. To get the latest version, just click on the same link where you got this
version. The link is updated every time there is an update – so you will always get the latest version by clicking on
the link. The link is given below again:

28. What are the fees for the VIRTUAL VEDA CLASS?
It is FREE.

29. What if I want to make a voluntary contribution?

We are doing this as a free service. However, some participants contact us expressing their desire to make a voluntary
