INTERVIEW FOR Ph.D. ADMISSION FOR JULY 2020 SESSION 5

 Concentrated solar power (CSP) or solar thermal power is an ideal technology to
hybridize with other energy technologies for power generation.
 CSP technology is the ability to readily store via thermal energy storage (TES)
through latent heat storage system using phase change materials (PCMs)
 Nanoencapsulation of PCMs enhances their efficiency in Industrial Applications.

INTERVIEW FOR Ph.D. ADMISSION FOR JULY 2020 SESSION 6

 PCMs are higher density energy storage and the ability to operate higher density
energy storage and the ability to operate.
 storing excess electrical energy is quite expensive. Instead, the cost related to
storing thermal energy (TES) is quite low.
 Thermal energy storage exhibits the highest efficiency

INTERVIEW FOR Ph.D. ADMISSION FOR JULY 2020 SESSION 7

Phase Change Materials (PCM) for Solar Energy Usages and Storage: An Overview
 design and analysis of PCMs to store latent heat to store excess energy have
been explored because low cost, large energy storage density, chemical stability,
and non-corrosiveness.
 Some of the classifications, types and methods of PCMs Based on their phase
change.
 solid-liquid PCMs are the most suitable for TES. Paraffin used over a wide range
of temperatures and high heat of fusion., undergo freezing without experiencing
super cooling,low cost.
 In this paper solar power generation, water heating system, solar cookers, and
solar dryers usingPCMs for commercial development.
 cascaded latent thermal energy storage.

 INTERVIEW FOR Ph.D. ADMISSION FOR JULY 2020 SESSION 8

Nano encapsulation of phase change materials (PCMs) and their applications in various fields for
energy storage and management
 PCMs could be improved by incorporating some additives, modifying PCM structures, and
optimizing the storage systems
 physical (high density, low volume change, and low vapor pressure
 chemical (prolonged stability, non-corrosive, non-toxic, and non-explosive or flammable
 thermal (high thermal conductivity, high specific heat, high latent heat, and suitable
phase change temperature)
 economic (widely available and low cost)
 Nanoencapsulation of PCMs, as an effective technique, can increase
their thermal conductivity, barricades their leak during the melting operation,
 several methods for fabricating nanocapsules loaded with PCMs including chemical,
physicochemical and physico mechanical techniques.
INTERVIEW FOR Ph.D. ADMISSION FOR JULY 2020 SESSION 9
 future research should focus on techniques to improve and optimize the heat
transfer of PCMs.
 Improve heat transfer techniques can increase heat conduction and suppress
heat convection.
 commercialized CST plants as research is still ongoing to discover better
techniques for high temperature PCM encapsulation and heat transfer
 To increase the efficiency of PCMs, it is required to encapsulate them before
application due to the solid-liquid changes in order to avoid the leakage in the
liquid state.
 Nanoencapsulation of PCMs, as an effective technique, can increase
their thermal conductivity, barricades their leak during the melting operation,

INTERVIEW FOR Ph.D. ADMISSION FOR JULY 2020 SESSION 10

 Concentrating solar thermal power (CSP)coupled with thermal energy storage
(TES)
 CSP has lower capital costs as well as very high operating efficiencies
 Use of phase change materials (PCMs) as TES. It provides the advantage of much
larger specific storage capacity reducing the size of the storage tank and the
overall cost of the system
 PCMs have some drawbacks, such as, low thermal conductivity, supercooling,
incongruent melting, large volume changes during phase transition, and
corrosive nature. Our innovative and fundamental approach to encapsulate the
phase change material (PCM)
