One of the challenges in our country today is the continuity of basic

education in all school communities. With the state’s policy of no face-to-
face classroom interaction among learners and teachers in schools
amidst the COVID pandemic, learning and literacy improvement among
school children is indeed a great task for school leaders and teachers.
The new normal situation calls for collaboration among school and
community leaders to initiate relevant projects in their localities to ensure
Brief Background
that education will continue and will be sustained in various forms and
modalities.

The Department of Education has implemented distance learning in

order to continue the mandate of providing basic education among Filipino
children through the utilization of Self-Learning Modules (SLMs). These
SLMs were prepared in various divisions and contained different learning
activities to develop the competency required based on the Most
Essential Learning Competencies (MELC)
.
However, it was noted and observed that most of the learners could
not accomplish all the activities indicated in the SLMs. Some parents
would complain that SLMs are too lengthy and there are many activities
that the learner failed to finish. Teachers noticed that a number of
returned SLMs were not answered, and some activities were
accomplished by the learners’ parents or guardians.

It is in this basis that Project LEARN: Learning Enrichment through
Appropriate Resources and Needs through Learning Activity Sheets for K-
6 was conceptualized in support to the distance learning program of the
Department of Education. The learning activity sheets will be
contextualized based on local culture and will follow the format set by the
region. This project hopes to address some issues encountered in the
utilization of SLMs; to offer more localized instructional materials which
are easier to understand, more relevant information and appropriate to
the ability of the learners.
Expected Output 3rd and 4th quarter Contextualized Learning Activity Sheets in all learning
from K-6
Objectives The following are the objectives in preparing Learning Activity Sheets

1. To provide contextualized and quality assured learning materials as a

support to the distance learning implemented by DepEd.

2. To relate and integrate local culture in various activities and learning

opportunities in the LAS.

3. To facilitate presentation and discussion of the lesson by relating

concepts to life’s context of learners and provide activities appropriate to
their ability.

4. To increase the availability of contextualized learning resources for all

subject areas in order to sustain the delivery of distance education and

5. To provide opportunities and avenue to hone teachers’ writing skills,

pedagogical competence, and talent in using technology and ICT in
making learning activity sheets.

6. To improve the academic performance of K-6 learners in different

learning areas.
