distance along the beam from one end. At what distance is the bending moment M=0

Q3. The height h(above the ground level) of a ball thrown vertically upwards is given by
h= - 4.9t2+55t +12, where t is the time. Find the time taken to reach the ground. (3 marks)

Q4. The resonant frequency,f0,of a tuned circuit is given by f0= . If f0 = 1000 Hz and L=1
X 10-3 henry, then determine C. ( 4 marks)

Q5.The voltage ,V, of a circuit is defined by: V=t2-5t+6. Sketch the graph of V against t,
indicating the minimum value of V.

Q1. The perimeter of a rectangular ranch is 24 km, and the length is 6 km more than the
width. Set up the equations relating the length l and the width w and then solve for l and w.

Q2.The electric resistance R of a certain resistor is a function of the temperature T given by


the equation R= aT+b, where a and b are constants. If R=1200Ω when T=10⁰C and
R=1280 Ω, when T=50⁰C, we can find the constants and b by substituting and obtaining the
equations
1200=10.0 a +b
1280= 50.0 a+b. (3 marks)

Q3. In mixing 85 octane gasoline and 93 octane gasoline to produce 91 octane gasoline, the
equation 0.85 x+0.93y=910 is used. Sketch the graph. (4marks)

Q4. A spring of length L is stretched x cm for each newton of weight hung from it. Weights of
3N and then 5 N are hung from the spring, leading to the equations,
L+3x=18
L+5x=22.
Solve for L and x, using (i) Elimination method (ii) Substitution Method (4 marks)

Q5. Under certain conditions, the cost per mile C of operating a car is a function of speed v
(in mi/h) of the car, given by C=av2+bv+c. If C=28$/mi for v=10 mi/h,
C=22$/mi for v=30 mi/h, and C=24$/mi for v=50mi/h, find a,b,c using Determinants.(5marks)

Q4. If a certain car’s lights are left on, the battery will be dead in 4 hours. If only the radio is
left on, it will be dead in 24 hours. How long will the battery last if both the lights and the

coupled circuit. By Kirchhoff we obtain the following mesh equations:

Q4. An amplifier has a transfer function T, given by T= , where ,is the angular
frequency. The gain and phase of the amplifier is given by the modulus and argument of T
