an offensive weapon. Yoyo-is a small wooden disc attached to a string from the finger. On May
24, 1888, Rizal arrived at Liverpool, England. Rizal spends the night at Adelphi Hotel while

its celebrated port is worthy of its great fame. The entrance is magnificent and the customhouse
is quite good.”

After visiting the United States, Rizal lived in London from May, 1888 to March, 1889 for
three reasons:
(1) to improve his knowledge of the English language;

The La Solidaridad is composed of Filipino Liberals exiled in 1872 and students attending
Europe's universities. This organization aimed to increase Spanish awareness of the needs of its
colony, the Philippines, and to propagate a closed relationship between the colony and Spain. Its
goal is to advocate liberal ideas and progress, to oppose the evil forces of reaction, to portray
the deplorable conditions of the Philippines so that Spain may remedy them, to champion the
legitimate aspirations of the Filipino people to life, democracy and happiness and to work
peacefully for political and social reforms.

women so that they may be enlightened, religiousness required reason, without reason there
was only religiosity. Rizal’s letter argued that women’s value was contingent on their
contribution to the Filipino identity, stressing how the character of motherhood reflected the
character of motherland.
