New York based orchestra Ensemble 212 is pleased to announce its first educational concert series featuring living composers
titled “New Music for Young Audiences: What is Today’s Classical Music Like”? (Saturday March 7, 2015 2 PM)

Objective:

Ensemble 212 is creating opportunities to introduce classical music written within the last 25 years to younger audiences
(elementary and secondary school students). The objective is to present new music in a fun and inquisitive manner and break
down any barriers and/or misconceptions people may have. By learning about and becoming familiar with the elements and
techniques used in new music, they will better appreciate and understand today’s composers. This will also help cultivate future
audiences for new music.

Submission Instructions:

Up to 4 works (in addition to 2 works by Composer in Residence Texu Kim) will be selected and performed by Ensemble 212 on
Saturday March 7, 2015 at the Good Shepherd-Faith Church at Lincoln Center. A professional audio and video recording of the
performance will be provided to the participating composers.

Criteria - All works submitted must contain one or more educational elements that can be related to young audiences. Works will
be selected based on quality of craftsmanship, suitability of the work being performed at an educational concert, and audience
accessibility. Composers are welcome to submit up to 3 works for consideration however, Ensemble 212 reserves the right to
reserve select the number of works performed.

Eligibility - Open to all composers of any age and nationality.

Duration - Both Single or multi movement works are acceptable however the entire work should be no longer than 15 minutes
total.

Instrumentation - The maximum instrumentation available is 14 players consisting of: 1 Flute (doubling Piccolo and Alto Flute), 1
Oboe (doubling English Horn), 1 Clarinet (doubling E Flat and Bass Clarinet), 1 Bassoon, 1 Horn, 1 Trumpet, 1 Trombone, 1
Percussion player (limited to only small, portable instruments), Piano, 2 Violins, 1 Viola, 1 Cello, 1 Contrabass.

Works submitted may contain any number of players up to maximum. Please note: Due to budgetary limitations, we regret that
larger percussion instruments such as timpani, xylophone, marimba, etc. are unavailable. Also, no exceptions or substitutions can
be made to the maximum instrumentation (e.g. 1 additional player or replacing oboe with 2nd clarinet).

Procedure:

All works for consideration must be submitted by 11:59 PM on Saturday, February 7, 2015.

After all submissions have been received, a committee consisting of the Artistic Director, Principal Associate Conductor, and the
Composer in Residence will review all scores and select up to 4 works to be performed.

Composers whose works have been selected will be notified by Thursday February 12, 2015. Please have parts available to send
if your piece is selected. Other submissions which are not selected this time will be kept on file at the composer’s request for future
performance considerations.

In lieu of printed program notes, Ensemble 212 uses a projector and screen to display any information relevant to a work during
their performances. If your work is selected, please prepare a short PowerPoint presentation (text only) with information about
your piece to be shown during the performance of your work.

Due to budgetary limitations, we regrettably are unable to offer rental/licensing fees and travel compensation. We would greatly
appreciate, however, if the selected composers attend the performance and the rehearsals, especially those who live in the New
York metropolitan area. As we continue this concert series, we hope to receive funding in the future to compensate composers.
