PART 1 GENERAL
A. This Section specifies the minimum technical requirements for design engineering,
furnishing, manpower, installing and supervision, of electrical wiring connections as
per the Contract Documents.
B. The Contractor shall, as part of his full responsibility scope, check the electrical wiring
connections as specified in the Contract Drawings/Documents. When this check
indicates that the specified electrical wiring connections are not adequate, the
Contractor shall notify the Royal Commission and take the necessary action/changes
with approval by the Royal Commission.
C. The Contractor shall also check and verify every requirement, aspect and detail
necessary for coordinating with new or existing systems of electrical wiring
connections.
1.04 REFERENCES
A. The referred codes and standards are intended to provide an acceptable level of
quality for materials and products. In case of conflict between these standards and
the text of this Specification, the Specification text shall govern.
B. The latest revision of the referred codes and standards shall be used wherever
applicable. In case of conflict, the Contractor shall propose equipment conforming to
one group of codes and standards.
1.05 DEFINITIONS
B. mechanical connectors: Connectors which are attached onto the conductor using,
generally, a standard tool. The process is reversible and the connector can be
removed from the conductor without cutting the conductor or the connector.
1.06 SUBMITTALS
A. The Contractor shall submit to the Royal Commission, under the provision of
SECTION 01330, the following items for review and approval before commencing
Work:
1. Shop Drawings, product data and any special tools shall be provided before
installation, as listed below:
a) List of manufacturers.
f) Certificates of compliance.
B. The Contractor shall submit field test reports after the completion of Testing and
Commissioning.
A. The Contractor shall be responsible for the quality work and shall develop and
propose programs and methods of construction and testing such as to achieve the
specified quality to the approval of the Royal Commission in accordance with
SECTION 01450.

B. In the absence of any of the above, best accepted industry practice shall be
employed throughout.
1. Ensure that all cable accessories (splices and termination) are tested at the
factory in accordance with approved test procedure; conform to applicable
codes and standard; splice and termination kits comply with the specifications
2. Perform all applicable routine tests for splice and termination kits as per
IEEE- 48 and IEEE-404, as well as the manufacturer’s standard.
3. Upon completion of all tests, submit 5 certified copies of the test reports to the
Royal Commission for review and approval not later than 10 days after the
completion of all factory tests.

A. The Contractor shall deliver, handle and store product units in accordance with
SECTIONS 01650 and 01660, as well as the following requirements:

2.01 GENERAL
A. All goods and products covered in this Specification shall be procured, when
available from an in-Kingdom manufacturer. Procurement of all goods and products
manufactured out-of-Kingdom or in-Kingdom must be approved by the Royal
Commission.
B. Quality of the equipment shall be of the best grade for each type of class. All
materials and products shall be new and manufactured by well-known firms and shall
be sound and uniform in quality, size, ratings, shapes, color and texture, and shall be
free from cracks, warpage or other defects.
C. Procured materials and equipment shall be of the type and quality specified.
Materials and equipment shall be the manufacturer’s standard products in
compliance with the referenced standards and adequately described by published
product information.
D. Procured materials to be used in hazardous classified areas shall be rated for the
specific classification of each area.
A. General
1. All the connectors, terminal lugs, splices and tapes shall conform to the
industry codes and standards, as specified in par. 1.04.
5. The Contractor shall determine the number and size of pressure connectors to
be provided on all equipment grounding bars for the termination of equipment
grounding conductors. In addition to the active circuits, provide pressure
connectors for all 3-phase spares and spaces on switchgear and motor control
centers.
2. Conductors 1.5 mm2 to and including 25 mm2 in size shall be terminated with
crimp type, full ring or rectangular tongue terminal connectors having
conductor insulation gripping sleeve.
3. Conductor 1.5 mm2 to and including 6 mm2 in size shall be terminated with
pre-insulated diamond grip type or approved equal.
4. Conductors larger than 25 mm2 in size shall be terminated with 2-hole, long
barrel, double indent crimp type lugs or approved equal.
1. All conductor terminations for 600 V power, instrumentation and control cable
shall be made using compression type tin-plated copper connector.
3. The shield shall drain off electrostatically induced voltage, charging currents,
leakage currents and shall ensure safety to personnel.
6. All splices and terminations shall be insulated, suitable for indoor, outdoor and
submersible applications, conforming to the following:
d) The short circuit current rating shall be equal to the rating of the cable
as specified.
1. The general requirements for high voltage splices and termination kits are
same as specified in par. 2.02 D.1.a, b, c and d.
3. The terminations and splices shall provide non-tracking exterior surfaces and
shall be suitable for operation under severe external contamination and
environmental pollution.
5. Cable end units provided at the 115 kV GIS shall make possible the
connection of fault location devices and test equipment for each single
conductor 115 kV cable without degassing the unit.
6. When cable terminations are silicon oil filled type, a metal compensation tank
with level or pressure gage and copper connected tubing shall be included
and installed beside the termination.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 GENERAL
A. The Contractor shall provide all materials, equipment and labor as deemed
necessary for proper execution of the work.
C. All the workmen making electrical connections to the utility services and equipment
shall be certified to perform these tasks. The certification shall be valid and approved
by the Royal Commission or their appointed representative.
D. Before making electrical connections to utility services and equipment, the Contractor
shall check the availability of supply voltage and the current ratings at the location
and check the polarities. The Contractor shall ensure the supply of power matches
the nameplate rating of the equipment and make connections as per the approved
drawings and manufacturer’s instructions.
F. All the electrical connections to utility services and equipment shall be made with
reference to the single line diagrams, wiring diagrams, interconnection diagrams,
manufacturer’s instructions, equipment installation layouts and cable and conduit
routing drawings. In case of any misconnections to the equipment, the Contractor
shall be held responsible for the loss of damaged or burnt out equipment and he shall
replace the same equipment with new, or repair to the satisfaction of the Royal
Commission, after prior written approvals are obtained from the Royal Commission.
G. The Contractor shall be responsible for the proper coordination of all phases of the
work and equipment as specified herein, with other work to be performed and
equipment to be furnished in order to assure a complete and satisfactory installation.
H. After the electrical connection is completed and properly adjusted, the Contractor
shall conduct operating tests. The various equipment and systems shall be
demonstrated to operate in accordance with the requirements of the specifications.
Tests shall be performed in the presence of the Royal Commission’s representative.
The Contractor shall provide electric power, instruments and personnel necessary for
performing the various tests.
I. All the grounding connections to the electro-mechanical and other equipment as well
as concrete and metallic structures shall be made as per the Grounding Layout
Drawings. Size of the grounding wires and cable shall be as indicated on the
Contract Drawings. For more and complete details on products and methods on
grounding installations, refer to SECTION 16060.
J. Install electrical connection accessories for equipment in damp and classified areas
so as to protect from moisture and prevent entry and accumulation of water within the
terminating box. All boxes/fittings and connection accessories shall be listed for use
in damp or wet location. Installation in damp location shall conform to NEC Article
312.2, and for classified areas as specified in par. 1.10 B.4.

10. Apply anti-corrosion joint compound to connectors, terminal lugs and bolting
pads before installation.
11. Terminations and connections for lighting circuits shall have the wire formed to
the terminal connection.
12. Connections at motor leads and other similar connections to insulated leads,
current transformers, or bus bars shall be covered and taped in such a manner
appropriate to the class of insulation originally on the conductor, with the tape
application extended over the terminal connector fitting and the terminal of the
device to which the conductor attaches. Tape shall be of a material approved
by the cable manufacturer and suitable for the purpose. Taping shall be
penciled as appropriate on built-up tape terminations, using either a pennant-
type tape, or by stepping and varying tape stretch, and with a non-tracking
cover tape overall.
1. For taps in conductors 6 mm2 and larger, use bolt type connectors or
compression type tin-plated copper connectors as specified. Bolt type
connectors shall be used with insulation covers or each connector shall be
taped with adequate layers to provide the same insulation value as the
conductor insulation.
2. For conductors 4 mm2 and smaller, use solder-less connectors of the twist-on
type.
c) The spigot on the gland body shall be threaded to suit standard conduit
accessories.
1. Wire and cable shall be spliced in outlet boxes, junction boxes, pull boxes or
equipment cabinets. Splices in conduits, raceways, or trench ducts are not
permitted.
2. Boxes for the termination of different types of insulated power cable and boxes
for joints in all power cables shall be of cast-iron. The boxes shall be fitted with
suitable armoring clamps and glands. The armoring of the cables shall be
terminated at the armoring clamps and the inner sheath shall pass through the
gland.
3. Plastic shells fitted with suitably sized armor bond and filled with approved type
cold-pouring, encapsulating compound may be used as alternative for jointing
PVC insulated power cables.
4. The complete jointing kit, including plastic shell, compound and insulating tape
shall be from the same proprietary manufacturer.
1. The two conductors shall be butted together after the strands have been
soldered solid and it shall be jointed by means of a weak back ferrule, soldered
to the cores.
2. Soldering shall be carried out by pouring tin-man’s solder over the cores and
weak back ferrule. Under no circumstances shall direct flame from a blow lamp
be used for soldering.
1. When two cables with copper conductors are T-jointed, the branch conductor
shall be connected to the main conductor by means of a claw-type or weak
back ferrules.
2. The strands in both branch and main conductors are to be sweated solid
before sweating to the ferrule.
H. Heat-Shrinkable Tubing
purpose and shall be suitable for use with the type and construction of cable to
be jointed or terminated.
2. Whenever heat-shrinkable tubing and accessories are used, the complete kit
shall be from the same proprietary manufacturer who is specialized in
manufacturing products for this purpose.
3. The installation method and procedures adopted shall strictly follow those laid
down by the manufacturer.

1. Cable tags shall be fixed at each end of joint and termination. For installation
refer to SECTION 16075.
A. General
1. Prior to starting the electrical testing, the Contractor shall verify the correct
voltage, phases and current consumption of all utilization equipment to be
connected.
2. The Contractor shall carry out all site tests in accordance with approved test
procedures that conform to applicable standards referenced in the
specifications.
4. At least 4 weeks prior to schedule tests, the Contractor shall submit to the
Royal Commission an outline of the plan and procedures to be used in
performing the site inspection and site tests. This outline shall include a brief
description of the test equipment, connection diagrams, proposed tests and
procedure, test sheets, calculations, reference drawings and
minimum/maximum test and performance values in conformance with the
specification and acceptability of the splices and termination kits and
acceptability of installation.
