Subject: Christine Lagarde

Introduction

The following report relates to my recent research about a successful, inspirational and one
of the most powerful woman in the world who has reached the top of her profession;
Christine Lagarde managed to become the first female finance minister in any G7 (group of
seven) countries.

Background

Lagarde was born in Paris, France at 1956. Spending her childhood in an environment, where
both her father and mother were teachers, she loved literature and got a great education.
However, as a teenager she was not only interested in studying but also in swimming-she
was a member of the French national synchronized swimming team.After graduating,
Christine received a scholarship to study at a prestigious girls' school in the state of
Maryland. Christine Lagarde obtained a Master in American Literature (1977) and then a
Master with major in Economics and Finance. In addition, she took a Master in Commercial
Law-DESS in Commercial and Labour Law, University Paris X Law School-.

Career development

Before get involved in politics, her career officially begun when she decided to practice as a
lawyer. She describes herself as a lucky woman, encouraging by strong role models like her
mother, her first boss and her grandmother. Years after her professional career, she became
a minister of Trade (2005-2007). Then in 2007,she was moved to the minister of Agriculture
and Fisheries of France.Lagarde achieved as a Minister of Economy and Finance of France.

Current position

On 2 July 2019, Lagarde was nominated by the European Council to succeed Mario Draghi as
President of the European Central Bank (ECB) on 1 November 2019. Best known for her role
as a managing director of the International Monetary Fund, Christine has a chair of the
European Systemic Risk Board, is a Member of the G7, G20 and the Board of Directors at the
Bank for International Settlements. Her current position since November 2019, according to
ecb.europa.eu › cvlagarde.en.html is The President of the European Central Bank.

Family life

Christine is a divorced mother of two sons(Pierre-Henri Lagarde and Thomas Lagarde).Her


father, Robert Lallouette, was a professor of English and her mother, Nicole Carréwas a
Latin, Greek and French literature teacher.Since 2006, her partner has been Xavier Giocanti.
Moreover, Lagarde's hobbies include regular trips to the gym, cycling, and swimming. In
2014, she awarded by Forbes magazine as the 5th most powerful woman in the world. In
2019, called as the 2nd most powerful woman in the world, named by the same.

Conclusion
Christine was recently interviewed by Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook-another
inspirational woman leader- and give some advises. She argued that young people should
take the chance and be educated enough in order to be successful. She also claimed that
nowadays, it is important for women to support each other. Taking all these points into
consideration, I would recommend that we should all follow her suggestions, because such a
powerful woman has a great experience and her opinion is valuable.
