1. If x = 4 sin2  and y = 4 cos2  + 1, then find x+y.
2. If the perimeter and the area of a circle are numerically equal, then find the

3. How many bags of grain can be stored in a cuboid granary 12m x 6m x 5m? If
each bag occupies a space of 0.48 m3.

Suresh is having a garden near Delhi. In the garden, there are different types
of trees and flower plants. One day due to heavy rain and storm one of the
trees got broken as shown in the figure.
The height of the unbroken part is 15m and the broken part of the tree has
fallen at 20m away from the base of the tree.

Using the Pythagoras theorem answer the following questions:


1. What is the length of the broken part?

2. What was the height of the full tree?

3. In the formed right-angle triangle what is the length of the hypotenuse?

5. The diameter of a circular pond is 17.5m. It is surrounded by a path of width
3.5m. Find the area of the path.
6. Circumference of the edge of hemispherical bowl is 132cm. Find the capacity
of the bowl.

A cone of height 20cm and radius of base 5cm is made up of modelling clay.
A child reshapes it in the form of a sphere. Find the diameter of the sphere.
7. In ABC, D and E are the points on the sides AB and AC respectively, such
that DE  BC. If AD=x, DB=x-2 AE=x+2 and EC=x-1. Find the value of x.

9. In the figure, a circle touches all the four sides of a quadrilateral ABCD whose
sides are AB=6cm, BC=9cm and CD=8cm. Find the length of side AD.
III. Answer the following: 6x3=18
10. A memento is made as shown in figure. Its base PBCR is silver plated from
the front side @ 20 per cm2. Find the total cost of silver plating.

11. A heap of wheat is in the form of a cone of diameter 9m and height 3,5m. How
much canvas cloth is required to just cover the heap? (use =3.14)
12. Prove that the sum of the squares of the sides of a rhombus is equal to the
sum of the squares of its diagonals.

Diagonals AC and BD of a trapezium ABCD with AB  DC intersect each
other at the point O. using a similarity criterion for two triangles, show that

13. Prove that the lengths of tangents drawn from an external point to a circle are
equal.

In two concentric circles, a chord of length 24cm of larger circle becomes a
tangent to the smaller circle whose radius is 5cm. Find the radius of the large
circle.
14. Draw a pair of tangents to a circle of radius 5cm which are inclined to each
other at an angle of 450.
15. A pole 5m high is fixed on the top of a tower. The angle of elevation of the top
of the pole observed from a point ‘A’ on the ground is 60 0 and from the same
point the angle of elevation of the top of the tower is 450. Find the height of
the tower. .
IV. Answer the following: 3x5=15
16. State and prove basic proportionality theorem.

State and prove Pythagoras theorem.
17. Prove that opposite sides of a quadrilateral circumscribing a circle subtend
supplementary angles at the centre of the circle.

18. Prove that = cosecA + cot A.
