Kto12 curriculum Program Implementation

The Department of Education (DepEd) has a program which is the K-12

program covering kindergarten and 12 years of basic education to provide adequate
time for concept mastery, skills, develop students to live long, and prepare graduates for
tertiary education, middle-level skills, development, employment, and entrepreneurship.
According to Hawsnetph(2016), K-12 program is one of the most recent update
in the education system of the country(Philippines).
The K-12 program is the addition of 2 years to the basic curriculum in the
Philippines due to DepEd, the Philippines is the last of the Asian countries to implement
ten years of basic education. The K-12 program is divided into kindergarten,
primaryeducation, junior high school and senior high school. As students, we agree with
the implementation of the K-12 program because it has great benefits and will hone
skills in various fields of specialization.
It has been six years since the implementation of the K-12 curriculum in the
Philippines and various issues continue to emerge from various human voices. It covers
twelve years of study enacted by Republic Act No. 10533, known as the “Enhanced
Basic Education Act of 2013”, enacted by former President Aquino in 2013. It aims to
provide Filipinos with adequate education as in other countries, where there is strong
competition and job skills held. As a Senior High School student, I agree with the
implementation of the "Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013" or K-12 Curriculum. By
implementing it, students become more prepared for work or the reality of life.
Unbeknownst to everyone, a Senior High School student is full of activities not only
intellectual but also emotional and ability shaped by the activities offered by the
education department.
The k-12 program aims to improve every Filipino child in the education he or
she needs to compete in the global context. The goal of the new Curriculum is to give
Filipino students ample time to master the skills and concepts so that they will be ready
for tertiary education when the time comes. And improving the quality of basic education
in the Philippines is urgent and critical. But some Filipino citizens are responding about
the implemented program because parents need to invest more money for their
children's education, the drop-out rate will increase because Filipino students have no
interest in attending at school because of the extra two years, and every family dream of
having a child graduate from college and it will not come true because of the K-12
program we do not agree with it because time and money are wasted.
The K-12 program provides a quality education and improving skills but it is a
Filipino problem, we are a Filipino student who has no interest in attending school.
By implementing it, young people will be better prepared to work and get a
profession. Anyone who graduates of K-12 can even be considered highly educated
even overseas. According to blogspot.com, you can get a Certificate of Competency
Level 1 if you have completed the requirements of TESDA even if you are a Junior and
continue to Senior High, there is a better opportunity to get a job especially for those
who lack supply in college.
However, many also oppose it. They still see K-12 as a waste of time and say
that ten years of education is enough. According to ANAKBAYAN UP LOS BANOS
(2012), while countries with a 10-year basic education are still getting high marks, K-12
is also said to be designed to serve foreign investors in the country and it encourages
young people who emigrate instead of serving their homeland. He also said that DepEd
is lacking in preparation for its implementation.
The purpose of this curriculum is to develop learning and innovation skills. IT
and media skills. Effective communication skills and life and career skills. The benefits
of K to 12 immediately join the workforce along with the electives learned during Grades
11 and 12. Students will no longer attend remedial classes in the first year of college
because K to 12 curriculum is aligned with the guidelines of the Commission on Higher
Education.
It is truly a preparation for the reality of life, as it is said that K-12 is brought for
a better future. But no matter how good this curriculum provides for the student's life
without perseverance and hard work, nothing will happen.
In general, K to 12 in the Philippines is beneficial for young people. There may
be some people who do not agree with this reform but it has more positive effects for
the whole country. I can say that the previous administration of Pres. Benigno Aquino III
was right in making this reform. There may have been some problems when it was
started and implemented but now we see the fruits of this reform. This is for the bigger
Filipinos and for the future leaders of the great nation.
For us, you can choose the course you want and you will continue it in college
where you have first knowledge in your subject or course that you will take and it also
makes it better to have knowledge or work experience because it is included in Senior
study High, even if you are short of college education your education will be met
because you can work on your completed Senior High course.
With the implementation of the kto12 program, the college education becomes an
advance for students, they already know something and can keep up with others. There
are students who really do not see the good benefits because they are focused on the
year that will be added to the study.
