Reflection about The Raiders of the Sulu Sea

Tale of the Slave Raiders of Sulu

From the southernmost part of the Philippine archipelago, there is a group of indigenous
people who raids slaves from different part of the Philippines were a threat for the Spaniards at
that time. The raiders of Sulu happened to be composed of three great tribes; Balangingi, Illanun,
and Tausug. The tribes mentioned were known as great warriors and talented in waters who
wants to conquer the fort to establish their presence and to provoke the colonizers.

The video presented twice depicted the summary of the historical-documentary entitled
“The Raiders of the Sulu Sea” produced by Oak3 Films and narrated by Remesh Panicker. It was
all about key points and the crucial parts of the film. The whole documentary revolves around the
slave-raiding of the Moros, the much-feared Dalasi Attack in December 1720, the expertise of the
raiders in sailing and fighting, and their downfall as well. The documentary includes key informants
of the film, an expert and credible historians who have excellent knowledge regarding Moro
history.

The actions of the Moros is undeniably brutal savages and merciless. The bravery that
they have is higher than I have expected. They are more talented than what people would
probably assume, for they build such great ships that are much faster than Spanish galleons.
Maybe, I would say that they are ruthless, for raiding slaves, use them, or sell them. But, weighing
things in this film plays an important role.

I would say that based on the video, the film would probably depend on how you see
things. First, I thought that they are such cruel and heartless creatures. However, if you will
consider that behind those actions are reasons that would probably influence their behaviors, then
you would probably understand why did they do such cruel things. Trying to view circumstances
from different perspectives will likely help you to see and understand things.

In conclusion, it was impressive that the fact that the raiders are such talented in fighting
and sailing, the immense bravery and courage flowing in their veins is undeniably remarkable.
But, for any instance, we cannot also deny the fact that they have brutality and wickedness. Every
action has its consequences. Every wrongdoing has an ending; one will stop you. One will end
that deeds that someone has done. However, things may vary in how we see their actions and
validate their behaviors. It solely depends on how we view things and distinguish what is right and
wrong.
