Perception may be defined as the process by which an individual selects, organizes and
interprets stimuli into a meaningful and coherent picture of the environment in
which s/he lives.

Perceptual Selectivity
Though people are exposed to several stimuli , they tend to select only a few at a given point of
time, this is perceptual selectivity. Selectivity in Perception which stimuli get selected depends on
two major factors :-
Intensity

External Attention Factors
Size:
A larger object is more likely to be noticed than a smaller object.

Perceptual selection is the process by which people filter out irrelevant
or less significant information, so that they can deal with the most
important matters.
