Activity 1. Manufacturing Technology Management 223

1. Manufacturing Technology Management offers career and

advancement opportunities in the manufacturing industry.
Students will learn skills in project planning and evaluation, work
design improvement, production control, facility design,
occupational safety and, and statistical quality control.
2. The importance of manufacturing industry is as follows:
 It has helped in modernizing agriculture by manufacturing
tractors, tools and machines used in cultivation.
 It has reduced employment pressure on agriculture.
 It has brought in much needed foreign exchange.
3. Five types of Manufacturing Processes are:
Repetitive Manufacturing
Discrete Manufacturing
Job Manufacturing
Process Manufacturing (Continuous)
Process Manufacturing (Batch)

Activity 2. Manufacturing Technology Management

1. A material is a substance or mixture of the substances that

constitutes an object. Material can be pure or impure, living or
non-living matter.
2. Materials Technology is a relatively comprehensive discipline that
begins with the production of goods from raw materials to
processing of materials into the shapes and forms needed for
specific applications.
3. Traditional Materials are those who which have been used to
construct shelters and buildings for a long time in a locality,
region or nation.
Activity 3. Manufacturing Technology Management

3. Chemical Manufacturing creates products by transforming

organic and inorganic raw materials with chemical processes.
Chemicals generally are classified into two groups: commodity
chemicals and specialty chemicals.

Activity 2. Materials Technology 213

1. Material management is a core supply chain function and includes

supply chain planning and supply chain execution capabilities.
Materials Management is the capability to use plan total material
requirements.
2. Functional managers apply the basic concepts of planning in
making daily business decisions.
3. Material processing is the series of steps or “unit operations”
used in the manufacturer of raw materials into finished goods.
