Animals and climate change

Animals play a very important role in the human life. From the early days animals have been a great
source for the people and is a great importance for the human life. Animals provide humans food,
transport and protection. We get milk from the cows and food from the chicken, and dogs can be
used for protection. Lastly animals can be used as companions to humans and have them as their
pets and value them a lot.

What is climate change

Climate change or global warming, is the process of our planet heating up. The Earth has warmed by
an average of 1°C in the last century, this may not seem much, but this effect big things and changes
for people and wildlife around the globe.

Global climate change has already had observable effects on the environment. Glaciers have shrunk,
ice on rivers and lakes is breaking up earlier, plant and animal ranges have shifted, and trees are
flowering sooner.

Effects that scientists had predicted in the past would result from global climate change are now
occurring: loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and longer, more intense heat waves.

By expecting rising temperatures doesn’t mean we`ll get nicer weather, but unfortunately the
climate will actually make our weather more extreme and unpredictable.

As temperatures rise, some areas will get wetter and lots of animals and humans could find their
habitat difficult to adapt due to the changing climate.

Climate change is when, uncommon weather is starting to appear, and the average temperature
starts changing dramatically. Humans and nature can both be blamed for climate change. After the
Industrial Revolution humans have been affecting the climate in a larger degree. some examples
can be agriculture and city development, and greenhouse gases that destroys the environment
and the ecosystem. Some examples from nature, is Radiation from the Sun, and Natural internal
variations in Earth's climate system.
What causes climate change

Most climate scientists agree the main cause of the current global warming trend is human
expansion of the "greenhouse effect" — warming that results when the atmosphere traps heat
radiating from Earth toward space.

Certain gases in the atmosphere block heat from escaping.

Gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect include- CO2

A minor but very important component of the atmosphere, carbon dioxide is released through
natural processes such as respiration and volcano eruptions and through human activities such as
deforestation and burning fossil fuels. Humans have increased atmospheric CO2 concentration by
more than a third since the Industrial Revolution began. This is the most important long-lived
"forcing" of climate change.

How does climate change effect wildlife

Climate change is already affecting wildlife all over the world, but certain species are suffering more
than others. Polar animals – whose icy natural habitat is melting in the warmer temperatures – are
particularly at risk. In fact, experts believe that the Arctic sea ice is melting at a shocking rate– 9%
per decade

Polar bears need sea ice to be able to hunt, raise their young and as places to rest after long periods
of swimming. Certain seal species, like ringed seals make caves in the snow and ice to raise their
pups, feed and mate.

It’s not just polar animals who are in trouble. Apes like orangutans, who live in the rainforests of
Indonesia, are under threat as their habitat is cut down, and more droughts cause more bushfires.
Sea turtles rely on nesting beaches to lay their eggs, many of which are threatened by rising sea
levels. Did you know that the temperature of nests determines whether the eggs are male or
female? Unfortunately, with temperatures on the rise, this could mean that many more females are
born than males, threatening future turtle populations.

Animals and their habitat

The most important source for the animal is nature. Nature is where the animals live, and where
they get their food and resources they need in their daily life. If this suddenly would change, the
animals would have a hard time trying to survive, reproduce and live a life like they once used to do.
This is starting to happen because of global warming and all the climate changes that is happening so
dramatically. Humans are cutting down trees, making big, tall buildings and new places for more
humans to live. We have only thought about "we are making space for new humans to live" And
never ask the question "where will the new home to the animals be?" After we have teared down
their territory and their important resources they need to have to survive out in nature.

If we take polar bears as an example, they are one of the most threatened animal species that is
today trying to survive in an "upside down" environment. Polar bears are dependent on ice as this is
a place where they easily can hunt, sleep and walk around like a free animal. Without the ice, they
will not survive for a day. Polar bears can`t live without this important life source and is not an
animal who can swim all day long or live in a forest environment. Without the ice, they can`t hunt or
sleep. the ice is melting down 9% per decade, so in the end polar bears will extinct.
