Artist Website Analysis
Band/Artists name- how is this presented: text? Logo? - analyse font, colour, size etc.
The artist’s name is centred at the top of the homepage, however there is no logo present.
The text belongs from a sans serif font and its aesthetic is very relaxed and drippy quite
conventional in the indie pop genre. It does not play with a lot of colour as it is a black colour
with the original white background. The size of the font is 36 which is not rather large and
does not take a lot of space which allows other images and assets to be placed.
The menu bar for my chosen analysis is somewhat unconventional as it is a polaroid with
clickable captions which represent the menu bar of the whole website. This polaroid asset is
positioned largely across the website and is also a way to show some of the pictures in the
gallery of the artist and start to create their image. The font used for the captions is very
similar to the one used for the title of the webpage however not the same, this one in
comparison is not that curved and free in the ends of the letters and it is slightly bolder.
The headings on the menu bar are store, home, music and tour.
Images – analyse 2 images - camerawork, framing, mise en scene, use of colour etc.
Is there a ‘latest news page’ and/ or a ‘story so far’ page? If so, what is on it? If not, how
does the artist communicate news on the website?
Tate McRae does not have a specific page called “latest news page” or “story so far” page but
she does however have a “tour” page in which she displays the dates which she is coming to
perform, she also has dedicated page for her merchandise which gets updated regularly.
Furthermore, on her homepage she has pop up for her newsletter service in which her team
probably send her fans the latest news. Finally, she has many platforms including her website
in which she might give regular updates and information.
There are not many text assets throughout her whole website which adds to the very
simplistic and low budget feel of indie pop. Therefore, there is not an artist biography on the
website itself however if the audience or people who follow her click on her social media
platforms, they can know about her at a personal level and how she started music and more
about the background of the music video and herself as an artist.
Is there an interview with the artist/ band on the website? If so, what form does it take
and how does it promote the artist/ band?
This specific artist does not have any interviews on her website; however, she does have tour
dates and promotional merchandise to promote her image and her latest single. The
merchandise is very simplistic and includes mainly her logo and some which have the
single’s name.
Does the website link to social media? If so, which social networks?
The website includes links to a few of her social media networks, which represent her
different platforms and digital convergence an aspect I also want to convey through my own
website.
The video content presented on the website is minimal on the homepage there is a featuring
of her latest single in a YouTube link and under the “Music” tab there is a working link or
preshow of her latest album connected through Spotify.
