Section 01010 Summary of Work
SCOPE OF WORK
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1. SUMMARY
1.1.1. The scope of the work for project, is to provide all engineering, labor,
supervision, material, tools, equipment and other services necessary
for the all civil works as appropriate, as described herein and as further
detailed in the Drawings, Specifications and other contract documents,
for the construction of temporary roads in the vicinity of the project.
1.1.2. The scope also includes, transportation, shop drawings, quality control
and testing including the services of independent testing agencies (as
required), all government fees, duties, visa charges, permits as
applicable etc. and safety requirements as called for in the
Specification and in compliance with the laws, regulations and codes of
all authorities having jurisdiction. The Works shall be coordinated with
other contractors working on the Project during the design, shop
drawing preparation, construction, commissioning and hand over
phases of the Project.
1.1.4. The Contractor shall note that all work in the Project site shall be
performed in a manner that would not hinder, obstruct, prevent, curtail,
reduce, endanger, inconvenience, or stop the activities / safe
operations of adjacent roads and buildings; in addition the entire site
shall be kept in a clean, safe and hygienic condition all to the approval
of the Project Manager. Construction Waste shall not be allowed to
accumulate on the site, but should be carted of site at least on a
weekly basis, to the approval of the Project Manager.
1.1.14 The Contractor shall provide at site offices a reference Local and
International American Standard (1 original copy and 2 extra copies) to
be kept on site during the course of construction at no additional cost to
the Owner. These reference standards shall be given to the Owner
after final turnover of the project.
1.2. DESCRIPTION
1.2.4 The supply and installation of vapor barriers, waterproofing of all concrete
in contact with soil, water stops, etc.
1.2.5 Furnishing and installing all sealants, caulking, joint fillers, as shown
and/or as required in conjunction with the system or to join the system to
adjacent construction.
1.2.6 The fabrication, supply and installation of all reinforcing steel, mesh and
accessories required for the concrete. The Contractor shall prefabricate
the reinforcing steel for columns and beams in his yard outside the site for
delivery to the site ready to be installed utilizing the available cranes.
1.2.9 Furnish and install joint fillers, sealers and expansion joints in concrete.
1.2.11 Any remedial works necessitated to achieve the required tolerance in the
finish of concrete surfaces to the approval of Owner.
1.2.12 The provision of other temporary facilities such as toilets, cleaning, rubbish
removal, pest control, maintenance, etc. as laid out Specification section
01510 in Division 1 -General Requirements.
1.2.15 Provide for the engineering, calculations, design, drawings, fabrication and
installation of temporary support, construction shoring, bracing, crane
bases miscellaneous bracing, etc., to support Contractors equipment,
including removal. Also provide for temporary bracing of the structure
during erection, as required.
1.2.16 The Contractor shall make use of such methods of work as are best
adapted to preserve the safety and stability of foundations, walls, and
other parts of the building and to prevent any disturbance or damage
thereto, and shall restore and make good any damages which may be
done in the course of the construction, irrespective of whether such
damage shall be due to negligence or to the inherent character of the
work.
1.2.17 Should any work performed under the Contract expose previously
unknown or unforeseen conditions whose presence could cause additional
construction cost or endanger the project in any way, all work shall be
stopped and the matter reported immediately to the Project Manager and
Engineer, for instructions. However, the Contractor shall immediately use
measures or methods necessary to insure safety and prevent threatened
damage, injury or loss.
1.2.19 Materials and Assemblies: Provide and install all supplementary parts
necessary to complete the work as described on the Drawings and in the
Specification, whether or not each item is specifically shown or specified.
1.2.21 Following the award of the Contract, the Contractor shall plan on being
available to attend co-ordination meetings at the Site as requested by the
Project Manager.
1.2.22 The Contractor is responsible for marshalling and staging his materials. All
costs associated with a storage yard including receiving, unloading,
storing, shake-out, reloading, and delivery to the site are to be included in
the base price. Therefore the contractor is requested to maximize
prefabrication of steel reinforcement in his storage yard considering the
very tight schedule and fast track contracts.
1.2.24 Location of Contractor’s equipment and materials should have the prior
approval of the Project Manager.
1.2.25 The Contractor shall not display or permit any signs, posters, or other
advertising on or about the premises without the prior written approval of
the Project Manager.
1.2.26 Air compressors, if used on the site should be whisperised and located as
approved by the Project Manager. Air hose couplings shall have safety
ties on each coupling to prevent their separation.
1.2.27 The Contractors survey crew shall co-operate with the Engineer's survey
personnel and/or those designated by the Engineer and shall verify the
survey, control points, bench marks, etc. The Contractor shall immediately
notify the Engineer of any disagreements or discrepancies.
1.2.28 Contractor shall arrange and pay for any special permits or other costs
required should off-hours transportation or construction be required.
1.2.29 The Contractor shall remove all trash, debris resulting from his work and
any excess material resulting from his operations daily and place them in
containers at the ground level and remove same from site.
1.2.30 The Contractor shall take adequate measures in the protection of installed
work adjacent to and below his work. The Contractor shall be required to
absorb all costs resulting from such damages.
1.2.31 The Contractor shall install, operate and maintain a site facility for the
testing of concrete cubes. This facility shall be operated under the
direction of the independent testing agency approved by the Engineer and
shall be complete in all respect, including curing tanks, etc.
1.2.32 All metal reinforcing chair carriers, spacing bars etc. in contact with the
form work shall be plastic tipped.
1.2.33 Hot Weather Concreting - The Contractor shall be responsible for control
of concrete temperature within the specified limits during mixing, transport,
placing and curing of concrete, by use of approved cooling methods.
1.2.34 The Contractor shall verify tolerance line and level before pour.
1.2.35 The Contractor shall ensure that pouring operations do not dislodge, break
up or otherwise move out of alignment in-place conduit, sleeves, etc. In
case of damage, the repairs shall be carried out at the cost of the
Contractor.
1.2.38 The Contractor shall maintain sewers, drains, etc., clean off debris on a
daily basis.
1.2.39 Debris from concrete/forming operations shall be removed from the area
daily.
1.2.40 The Contractor shall ensure that areas adjacent and below the concrete
operations, such as structures, curtain wall below, etc. are protected and
kept clean from debris and concrete spillage generated by his work at all
times.
1.3. SPECIFICATIONS
1.3.3 Work in the Specifications is divided into descriptive Sections that are not
intended to identify absolute contractual or work limits between
Subcontractors, or between the Contractors, or between the Contractor
and his Subcontractors. The Contractor shall organize division of labour
and supply of materials essential to complete the Works in all its parts.
1.3.7 Wherever in the Contract Documents the word “provide” is used in any
form, it shall mean that the work concerned shall include both supply and
installation of the products required for completion of specified work to
which reference is made.
1.3.9 Wherever in the Contract Documents the words “indicated” or “shown” are
used they shall apply as meaning “indicated on Drawings and/or
Schedules” or “shown on Drawings and/or Schedules” unless the context
expresses another meaning.
1.3.12 Wherever in the Specifications the term “exposed to view” is used it shall
refer to surfaces that are within the line of vision of persons from any
accessible viewpoint, both within and without the works. Where any part
of a surface is exposed to view, all other portions of that surface shall also
be considered as exposed to view.
1.4. DRAWINGS
1.4.1 Drawings shall include all drawings and such schedules as materials, and
equipment schedules included in the Contract Documents.
1.4.2 The Contract Drawings indicate the scope of the Works and the general
and approximate location, arrangement and size of fixtures, and
equipment. The Contractor shall determine accurate locations,
arrangements and sizes by the study and coordination of the architectural,
landscape, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical elements of the Works
and shall prepare shop drawings. Before proceeding with any part of the
Works, the Contractor shall ensure that spaces and arrangements that
affect installations are adequate and coordinated. Where constructions
require revisions to indicated locations and arrangements, make such
revisions at no additional cost to the Owner.
1.5.2 The Contractor shall not include items designated “NIC” in the works.
1.5.3 The Contractor shall not include items designated “by others” in the works.
1.6.2 The Contractor shall give the Owner adequate notice of intent to perform
overtime work and obtain the Owner’s approval before proceeding with
overtime work.
1.7.2 The Contractor shall obtain permission from the Owner for use of Owner
Property outside of the confines of the assigned construction site prior to
occupying it for any purpose.
1.7.3 Perform only Work directly related to the Works on the site.
1.7.4 The Site and additional work areas shall be utilized by the Contractor and
Sub-contractor only as required for the Works.
1.7.5 Restrict construction personnel to the Site and Work areas. Do not allow
unauthorized persons on the Site or Work area.
1.8.1 Do not restrict the users of adjacent premises in the safe and unhindered
use of and access to adjacent premises, including but not limited to,
buildings, roads, sidewalks and similar facilities.
1.8.2 Co-ordinate with the Owner to ensure continuing use of and access to
adjacent premises as approved by the Owner.
1.12. EXAMINATION
1.12.1 The Contractor shall ensure by examination that all physical features at
the Works, and working restrictions and limitations that exist are known, so
that the Owner is not restricted in his use of the site for his needs.
b. Verify that previously executed work and surfaces are satisfactory for
installation or application, or both, and that performance of subsequent
work will not be adversely affected.
1.13.4 Keep excavations and pits free of water. Pump dry as required.
1.13.6 Keep surfaces on which finish materials will be applied free from grease,
oil and other contamination, which would be detrimental in any way to the
application of finish materials.
1.13.7 Do not apply visible permanent markings to surfaces which are exposed to
view in the finished state or which are to receive transparent finishes.
1.13.10 Brace and shore masonry walls until their designed lateral support is
incorporated at both top and bottom.
1.13.11 Enforce fire prevention methods at site. Do not permit bonfires, open
flame heating devices or accumulation of debris. Use flammable materials
only if proper safety precautions are taken, both in use and storage.
1.13.12 Provide and maintain in working order extinguishers of types suitable for
fire hazards present in each case as approved by jurisdictional authorities,
and locate them in prominent locations and to the approval of jurisdictional
authorities.
1.13.13 Where flammable materials are being applied, ensure that adequate
ventilation is provided, spark-proof equipment is used, and smoking and
open flames are prohibited.
1.13.14 Ensure that volatile fluid wastes are not disposed of in storm or sanitary
sewers or in open drain courses, and that disposal methods approved by
local authorities are utilized.
1.13.16 Prevent spread of dust beyond the construction site by wetting, or by other
approved means.
1.13.17 Protect all grass, plants, shrubs and trees, which are to remain as part of
the Permanent Works.
1.14.1 The Contractor shall establish a safety program to maintain safe working
conditions at the site at all times.
1.14.2 The Contractor shall appoint one person in sole authority and additional
assistant personnel to administer and oversee safety practice at the site
and establish their authority to enforce safety program requirements.
1.14.3 Co-ordinate with the Owner to determine any special safety requirements
of the Owner.
1.14.4 Ensure that all persons on the site are informed of safety program
requirements and of their obligations to maintain safe working conditions.
1.14.5 Post safety warnings and instructions in English and Arabic language at
visible and critical location throughout the site.
1.14.6 Provide safety helmets on loan to visitors to the site.
1.16.1 Do not burn or bury waste material on the Site. Remove as often as
required to avoid accumulation.
1.16.2 Do not allow waste material and debris to accumulate in an unsightly or
hazardous manner. Sprinkle dusty accumulations with water, provided no
damage is caused to surfaces. Provide containers in which to collect
waste material and debris.

1.17. DUST CONTROL
1.18. SALVAGE
1.18.1 Unless otherwise specified, materials on the Site at the time of signing of
the Contract shall remain the property of the Owner.
1.18.2 Unless otherwise specified, salvaged material resulting from construction,
and surplus materials and construction debris shall become the property of
the Contractor, who shall dispose of it away from the Site to municipality,
approved locations.
