Orphans - Cold Play - Music Video

Concept
A man is sat down at his kitchen table eating some toast with a cup of coffee. His facial
expression shows that he is tired and gloomy. As he bites on his toast, he notices a stack of
photos on the end of the table. The start of the song starts to play quietly increasing in volume
as we see over his should at the picture. A flashback into the picture shows a group of
teenage kids messing around having a fun time, as the pace of the song increase. A flash back
out to the man looking at the picture, as he is looking at the picture a splodge of jam lands on
his shirt and tie, as he sighs as examines the dirty tie. Whilst he switches to look at a different
picture and the flash into the picture occurs again. Once again, the transition back out to the
man looking at the picture occurs. The man has jam on his shirt, and it has started to rain
outside heavier however he is still cheerful as picks up some sunglasses and leaves the
kitchen.

Why are you producing this production?

I am producing this music video, as I want to create an opportunity for me to be more
creative and push out of my comfort zone to see how creative my production can be. I am
using this production as an opportunity to try new techniques before I reach my FMP so that I
can experiment without having to worry about something not working out as I planned. One
of the main techniques I am trying in my music video is the flashback transition. I have
decided that I want the picture he looks at to be the first frame of the flashback scenes. I want
to practice this transition now so that I am able to use it with confidence in my future projects
and FMP.

Deadline
The deadline for the unit is the 22nd of January 2020

Target audience
My target audience that I have chosen is 40-60-year olds. This has continued to enable me to
produce a piece of work that is not what I am used to making, as I am now having to create
something unique to fit better with my target audience of 40-to-60-year olds.

What they want to see

My target audience want to see a music video with a narrative that is around 5-10 minutes
long as there will be some areas of the music video where there is no music playing. From
my secondary research I have found that they want it to be gripping but have some light-
hearted moments to it, to keep them interested in the short film from the start to the end.

What you are creating based on that research

3

My target audience thoroughly enjoyed my production idea when I made my focus groups, as
I had made sure to make minor changes to the concept of my production beforehand to ensure
the liked it. They said they wanted to see very nostalgic props in the music video to highlight
that the flashback is going back in time to when the character was a kid.

The plot will be simplistic but with a small fun twist at the end. The camera angles aren’t
going to be very dynamic, however are going to help show off the story more clearly to the
audience to allow them to understand the plot faster.

Where the production will be aired

My production will be aired on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. I have chosen these
platforms to air my production as I have found from my research into my target audience
profiles that many of them used Facebook and Instagram as their only social media platforms
of choice. I have decided that I will also air it on YouTube, as there are 2 billion users so it’s
a large platform that may have viewer of my age demographic that want to watch my
production.
