CAE GOLD 2015 UNIT 2 PROPOSAL

HELPING WITH STUDENT PRESENTATIONS; AN OVERVIEW

INTRODUCTION

The aim of this proposal is to describe some of the difficulties students at this school have with
preparing their final presentations and go on to make a series of recommendations on how
teachers at the school could assist students with overcoming the obstacles in order to give a
successful presentation confidently. The information was gathered from a class discussion.

CURRENT SITUATION

Following the discussion among the students, it has become clear that many students are
feeling very nervous about the upcoming presentations. A number of students are struggling
to select an appropriate topic, while others are unsure about suitable structure. Comments
made suggest that students lack previous experience in public speaking and would like
opportunities to practise before the final assessment.

RECOMMENDATIONS

In order to give students additional help with topic selection and presentation structure, as
well as opportunities to gain experience speaking in front of others, the following suggestions
for teacher have been made:

 Students should be provided with a list of possible presentation topics.

 There should be a lesson or workshop on structuring a presentation for those who are
interested or require assistance.
 Giving students time in class to practise their presentations in small groups is
recommendable.
 Additional upfront speaking opportunities should be incorporated into classes
including plays and games.

CONCLUSION

If these suggestions are implemented, I believe it will lead to increased student confidence
and enhanced performances in their final presentations.
