Course Description:
This course is designed to present crucial historical events, moments and periods in the history of modern
Turkey from World War II to present. We will discuss Turkey’s democratization process and its challenges,
military coups, social movements, political economy, as well as Europeanization and other current issues
that are crucial in the transformation of Turkish state, politics and society. The course aims to provide an
analytical understanding of the history of modern Turkey from 1945 to present day.
