2.1. Important Notes
1. PACT design has been based on the highly proven and documented technology‐ MBBR
(Moving Bed Bio film Reactor).
2. Raw water source is from municipal wastewater and treated water will be used for
irrigation.
3. We have considered containerized tank for the suggested scheme. This will minimize the Site
Installation work and system can be commissioned in very short time.
4. Air conditioned plant room is considered only for Electrical & control panel. Pumps, Blowers,
Media filter, Dosing system.
5. The tank dimensions are subject to changes during the detailed engineering and layout
preparation. However the volume remains the same.

SECTION 4
4.1. Process Description
4.1.1. About MBBR Technology
Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor MBBR process is a state‐of‐the‐art fixed‐film (or attached growth)
biological process used for wastewater treatment both municipally and industrially for BOD removal,
nitrification and de‐nitrification.
Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) processes improve reliability, simplify operation, and require
less space than traditional wastewater treatment systems. MBBR technology employs thousands of
polyethylene biofilm carriers operating in mixed motion within an aerated wastewater treatment
basin. Each individual biocarrier increases productivity through providing protected surface area to
support the growth of heterotrophic and autotrophic bacteria within its cells. It is this high‐density
population of bacteria that achieves high‐rate biodegradation within the system, while also offering
process reliability and ease of operation.
This technology provides cost‐effective treatment with minimal maintenance since MBBR processes
self‐maintain an optimum level of productive biofilm. Additionally, the biofilm attached to the
mobile biocarriers within the system automatically responds to load fluctuations
MBBR technology has become the preferred biological treatment technology because it offers
several advantages over the traditional Activated Sludge Process, the most popular technology. The
MBBR reactor shaves off 60‐85% BOD and reduces the load to downstream activated sludge
process significantly resulting in a very efficient treatment with a lower footprint
