WORLD PEACE
World peace is a state in which the global community of nations is not pitted against
each other in a battle for financial and territorial dominance. It is a state where they all
function with a similar goal that being the expansion of resource availability, the
protection of the environment and the mastery of spaceship Earth through
infrastructure.
It is the function of this individual human evolution, when human beings will learn to
live above all religious, cultural and political ideologies and “isms”.
It is an ideal of freedom, peace and happiness among and within all nations and/or
people. World Peace is an idea of refrain from violence by which nations willingly
cooperate, either voluntarily or by virtue of a system of governance that prevents
warfare.

Q1:How Can We Foster World Peace?

The world is in segments and thus my own vision of a peaceful and harmonious world
will be
constructed in five different aspects which are:
1. Politics
2. Economy
3. Culture
4. Security, and
5. Environmental Protection.
1.POLITICS-
Politically, all countries should respect each other and conduct consultations on
an equal footing in a common endeavour to promote democracy in international
relations. Though
all nations are not balanced in terms of political strength but there should be a mutual
respect and understanding for each other’s stand on political issues that affect the
world at large. Sovereignty of nations should be respected and external interference
should be at the minimal level.
2.ECONOMY-
Economically, they should cooperate with each other, draw on each other’s strengths
and work together to advance economic globalization in the direction of balanced
development, wealth divide, shared benefits and win-win progress.
3.CULTURE-
Culturally, they should learn from each other in the spirit of seeking common
ground while shelving differences, respect the diversity of the world, and make joint
efforts to
advance human civilisation.
4.SECURITY-
In the area of security, they should trust each other, strengthen cooperation,
settle international disputes by peaceful means rather than by war and work together
to safeguard
peace and stability in the world.
5.ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION-
On environmental issues, they should assist and cooperate with each other in
conservation efforts to take good care of the earth, the only home-for human beings

Q2:What could be the ways for you to join world peace process?

I have been able to identify three ways by which young people can help to realize the
vision of a peaceful and harmonious world and they are:
1.
By joining International and National Voluntary
Organizations-
In this present
world, there are so many national and international voluntary organizations that a
young person can join and through which such a young person will be able to play a
role and
contribute to a peaceful and harmonious world. Such organizations include AIESEC,
ROTARY, AMNESTY and RED CROSS just to mention a few. These bodies are
notable
for the efforts being made by them to ensure that the world will live in is peaceful
Thus, a
young person can join any of these organizations in his domicile country and be
effective in projecting the vision. Also at the national level there are other
organizations that a person can join
1.
Through the Local and International Media-
The media has proved to be one of the
best tool through which global peace and harmony can be ensured. A young person
can
share his ideas and views through the media. The Internet which the young people are
so
used to is another effective avenue through which a young person can contribute to
global
peace and harmony. Social network sites like Facebook, host millions of youth
around the world and it can also be employed to contribute to global peace and
harmony.
2.Through Students’ bodies and
organizations
- Majority of young people are at different
stages of the educational structure such as the High School, College and the
University.
Students’ bodies exist in most institutions and where properly employed, they can
become effective means of participation in ensuring the vision for global peace. The
popular social network site, Facebook was started by a group of students in Harvard
and today it has become the largest and most popular social network site in the world.
If a group of students could achieve this feat then we can imagine greater things
students’ bodies will be able to do. Thus, Students’ organizations can be an effective
platform for a young person to contribute to world peace and harmony.

Whether we like it or not, it is quite obvious that the world today, cannot afford a third
global conflict.Every nation under the sun has to understand that in the age of
extremely sophisticated nuclear weapons, warfare has become infinitely more critical,
complex and devastating. The youth of today, wants economic and socio-cultural
development. They want better and secure
future for themselves. This is not possible without peace. History has always shown
that peace comes only with democracy, pluralism and tolerance

Factors That Violates Peace:

Let’s understand what disturbs the external peace of the world. If the reason is clear,
then a solution shall be drafted. Conflict of human belief is the prime reason.
1. Conflict of religious ideas. It’s not even the ideals/dogma as such that causes a rift,
the mockery of one by the believers of the other and thus the perceived insult.
2. Conflict due to concept of nationalism and supremacy of patriotism based on
imaginary boundaries. Just think about all Military - Army, Navy, Air force, Missiles,
Nuclear weapons. Who are we piling them against. The pseudo-association of regional
identity has controlled human intelligence and harmony of existence for a few
millennia already, and we aren’t learning this from our history.
3. Conflict between public opinion/welfare vs corporate interests. This is a silent
killer of human beings in many parts of the world which goes less noticed. If the root
cause for many terrorist organisations localised to specific geography is t be analysed,
corporate lobby with corrupt local Governments, through over reach of power disturb
the means of livelihood as in clearing up forests, extracting oil and natural gas,
settings up Nuclear plants in human populated areas. When the first line of local
leaders raise their voice of concern, they are suppressed by force and humiliated by
Governmental agencies. Naturally they resort to terrorism believing that they fight for
social good, when in reality, it does just the opposite - Disturbance of peace

Q4:What are the pre Conditions for World Peace?

Pre-Conditions for World Peace

When the dominant nations will abandon all ideas of aggression and self-
aggrandisement, when all fear, mistrust and bitterness will leave the hearts of the
subjugated peoples; and when the various races and nations of the world will live
united by the bond of love, sympathy and co-operation in one human family or
society, then and only then will peace reign upon the earth. When the diverse religious
faiths of the world will shake off bigotry, intolerance and fanaticism, and live in
complete harmony, as so many phases of the one Universal Religion, then alone will
the world have peace.
A Heinous Crime
No nation has the right to feed itself fat on another nation. Holding a country in
subjugation to enjoy economic benefit it yields is a heinous crime. To defend a
country from one aggressor must not be made an excuse for its enslavement by
another.
The Cementing Force of Moral Goodness
Unity of all nations and races would ensure world peace. No world unity is possible
without the cementing force of moral goodness.

Eradicating the Root-Cause

Attempting to secure permanent peace simply by military, political and economic
readjustments is like treating symptoms without caring to eradicate the cause of a
disease, and cannot therefore produce the desired effects.
The Ultimate Goal of Life
It is with the deepening of faith of spiritual realities that moral life develops. We have
forgotten our spiritual self and think of ourselves wholly or primarily as physical
beings. When we cannot take impersonal views of things, our reason fails, our will
breaks down and we loose control of ourselves, fear and worries harass us, and pride,
greed, anger, hatred and jealousy rule within us. Selfishness makes moral cripples of
us.
Moral Principles Indispensable
Our true self is neither the body nor the mind but it is the knower of both. The true self
is our shining, pure, blissful, birth-less, deathless, changeless, and free. Realization of
the self is the ultimate goal of life.
Worldly riches, pleasures and powers no longer seem the chief objects of life but
merely subsidiary means to the spiritual end. Morality though indispensable to
spiritual attainment, is not so to worldly gain. That is why seeker of worldly success
may deliberately ignore moral principles, but a seeker of the spiritual ideal cannot.
Attitude of sympathy and co-operation with our fellow beings, if properly cultivated,
will conduce to world peace to a certain extent.
At this hour when man's power of destruction tremendously outbalances his power of
defence, the world needs moral and spiritual guidance more than anything else.
The Chief Source of Trouble in Life
Man's real problem is not in the physical world but in his psychological world. Peace
is a state of mind. The lack of inner goodness and understanding is the chief source of
trouble in both private and public life. Wealth, position, practical efficiency, beauty,
power, learning - singly or jointly - cannot ensure peace if human nature is debased.
True Mark of Progress
There cannot be better world unless there are at the same time better individuals,
better societies and better nations. The world must progress as a whole. All
developments, however glamorous, should not be construed as even a mark of
progress unless human relationship improves correspondingly.
The seekers of peace and progress must, therefore, above all, direct their efforts to
establishment of a cordial relationship between men. This will be possible only by
means of moral goodness supported by spiritual outlook on life.
The Most Important Peace Program
To awaken the moral and spiritual consciousness of men is obviously the only sure
way to lay the foundation of world peace. Whoever of you is convinced of this should
start to work at once. First try to improve your own character, and then in the spirit of
serving the highest and best in others, help them to do the same. Do not force your
ideas on any one. Do not give attention to who joins or leaves you. Before long you
will find yourself surrounded by some who will share your views and co-operate with
you.
Q5: What is the role of UN in promoting the peace process?
Role of the UN:
Assurance of Peace
After two devastating world wars, the assurance of peace and international security
form the central tasks of the world organisation, whereby the endeavour is to learn
lessons from the failed attempt to set up a collective security system under the League
of Nations in the period between the wars
Protection of Human Rights
The genocide and the crime against humanity of the Hitler regime in particular, form
the background for the second major field of tasks for the United Nations: the
protection of human rights and the continued development of public international
law.

Conflict prevention
Conflict prevention involves diplomatic measures to keep intra-state or inter-state
tensions and disputes from escalating into violent conflict.
It includes early warning, information gathering and a careful analysis of the factors
driving the conflict. Conflict prevention activities may include the use of the
Secretary-General’s “good offices,” preventive deployment of UN missionsled by the
Department of Political Affairs.
Peacemaking
Peacemaking generally includes measures to address conflicts in progress and usually
involves diplomatic action to bring hostile parties to a negotiated agreement.
The UN Secretary-General may exercise his or her “good offices” to facilitate the
resolution of the conflict. Peacemakers may also be envoys, governments, groups of
states, regional organisations or the United Nations. Peacemaking efforts may also be
undertaken by unofficial and non-governmental groups, or by a prominent personality
working independently.

CONCLUSION :
Today, peace and security are not longer viewed only in terms of absence of military
conflicts but the common interests of human- kind. Over the years the General
Assembly has helped to promote peaceful relations among nations by adopting several
resolutions and declarations on peace, the peaceful settlement of disputes and
international cooperation in strengthening peace. UN played effective peace making
role in Afghanistan, Somalia, crisis in former Yugoslav Republics, Kosovo, Middle
East (Arabs, Israel conflict), Angola, Congo, Rwanda, and in Gulf crisis.

Thus the world has finally arrived at a stage where the only solution to bilateral and
other
problems goes through peaceful negotiations and the only way to survive and prosper
goes
through democracy, tolerance and mutual respect and understanding.
As there is a famous saying
If there is to be peace in the cities,
There must be peace between
neighbours.
If there is to be peace between
neighbours,
There must be peace in the home.
If there is to be peace in the home
There must be peace in the heart
