TAG QUESTIONS

I. Nguyên tắc chung:


Câu giới thiệu khẳng định, phần câu hỏi đuôi phủ định:
 You are a student, aren’t you?
 The flowers are beautiful, aren't they ?
 Lan goes to school, doesn't she?
 She has just bought a new bicycle, hasn’t she?
 Lan can put a pen in your bag, can't she ?
 Girls may go out at night, may they not?( “May not” không rút gọn)
 She will marry an American, won’t she?
 You could have seen him, couldn’t you?
 I ought to have heard by now, oughtn’t I?
Câu giới thiệu khẳng định, phần câu hỏi đuôi phủ định:
 She hasn’t bought a new bicycle, has she?
 You aren’t a student, are you?
 You’re not going out today, are you? 
 Your wife didn’t sing that song when she was alive, did she?

Chủ ngữ (S) ở đuôi phải là một trong 7 đại từ nhân xưng :It, we, I, he, she,they, you

I. Một số TH đặc biệt:

Trường hợp 1: Câu giới thiệu dùng “I am”, câu hỏi đuôi dùng “ aren’t I” ( or am I not)
I’m right to say that, aren’t I? ( Remarks: I’m not wrong, am I?)

Trường hợp 2: Câu đầu có “I” + các động từ sau: think, believe, suppose, figure, assume, imagine, reckon, expect,
seem, feel that + mệnh đề phụ  lấy mệnh đề phụ làm câu hỏi đuôi.
I think he will come here, won’t he? - I don’t believe Mary can do it, can she?

Trường hợp 3: Câu giới thiệu dùng Lets, câu hỏi đuôi “ Shall we”.
Let’s go gor a picnic, shall we?

Trường hợp 4: Sau câu mệnh lệnh, câu hỏi đuôi “will you”?
Don’t be late, will you? - Open the door, will you?

Trường hợp 5: S là Everyone, someone, anyone, no one, nobody, none of, neither of…, dùng “they”
Somebody wanted a drink, didn’t they? - Nobody*phoned, did they?
Neither of them complained, did they?
EVERYONE came there, didn’t THEY?
EVERYBODY is happy, AREN’T THEY?
NO ONE is perfect, ARE THEY?
NOBODY wants to go, DO THEY?

Trường hợp 6: S là nothing, anything, something, everything, this, that….dùng “ it”.


Nothing can happen, can it?
NOTHING has become worse, HAS IT?

Trường hợp 7: S là trạng từ phủ định: NEVER (không bao giờ) - HARDLY (hầu như không)  RARELY = SCARELY =
SELDOM ( hiếm khi), LITTLE (ít khi, hiếm khi), NO, NONE, NEITHER  => thì câu hỏi đuôi ở dạng khẳng định
He NEVER GETS up early, DOES HE?

Trường hợp 8: Câu đầu là “ I WISH”, dùng “ MAY” trong câu hỏi đuôi.
I wish to studay English, may I

Trường hợp 9: Câu đầu có MUST


+ MUST chỉ sự cần thiết  Needn’t: They must study hard, needn’t they?
+ MUST chỉ sự cấm đoán  Must: You mustn’t come late, must you?
+ MUST chỉ sự dự đoán ở hiện tại  Dựa vào V theo sau must He must be a very intelligent student, isn’t he?
+ MUST chỉ sự dự đoán ở quá khứ ( Must + have + PP)  You must have stolen my bike, haven’t you?

Trường hợp 10: Câu cảm thán  Lấy danh từ trong câu đổi thành đại từ, câu hỏi đuôi dùng “am, is, are”
What a beautiful dress, is it? – How intelligent you are, aren’t you!

Trường hợp 11: Câu đầu có “ It seems that + Clause”  Lấy mệnh đề làm câu hỏi đuôi.
It seems that you’re right, aren’t you?

Trường hợp 12 : Chủ từ là mệnh đề danh từ , dùng “ it”


What you have said is wrong, isn’t it? – Why he killed himself seems a secret, doesn’t it?

Trường hợp 13: Câu mời , dùng “ won’t you”


Have a cup of coffee with me, won’t you?

Trường hợp 14: Câu có cấu trúc “ neither…nor” thì câu hỏi đuôi sẽ chia ở số nhiều
Neither you nor I are children, are we

Trường hợp 15 :Chủ từ là một số Đại từ đặc biệt:


All can’t speak at a time, can they?
Everyone cheered wildly, didn’t he( formal)/ didn’t they( informal)?

Trường hợp 16: Câu có little, a little, few, a few:


Very little progress has been made, has it?
A little progress has been made, hasn’t it?

Few people knew the answer, did they?
