WASTE MANAGEMENT COMPAIGN

GRRA conducted a waste management campaign recently as a way of encouraging

people to be smart and responsible for waste disposal so as to avoid diseases like
typhoid, cholera and malaria in this rainy season.

At a time where the council is failing to carry or empty the bins due to fuel shortages
there is also non stop rains.

"Its about a month now without seeing the refuse truck, the council is not collecting our
bins so we will create our own dump sites." said Munyaradzi Machaya from ward 10

This might be a cause of a lot of water and waste born diseases as such Gweru residents
will be at risk.

As such GRRA found it crucial to conduct a road show so as to attract audience in the
process of educating them.

The campaign was to let people know that they should be responsible as they wait for
council to collect the bins they should burn the waste which can be burnt and dig to the
ground all perishables so as to avoid flies and to avoid mosquitoes and to avoid the
creation of dumpsites.

There have been a report of the sewers being blocked by rages and pampers as a result
the water failed to go down the drain and it flows into people's yards.

As Linnet Mushonga speaking she states that "The sewage have been on my yard for
the whole week I cannot even eat in peace."

As such made it known that as resident we should be responsible by burning unwanted

cloths and also used pampers or place them in sacks and wait for the council to collect,
so as to avoid throwing them in drainages or any place which can block the flowing of
water.
