STEP A MEDIA SELECTION
Note : this section will give detailed explanation for each settings with important effect on quality
A1 Media Selection
Just after lowered the Paper Pressure Lever, the printer will display the settings you can use for the media previously
loaded. If you have already created a custom Media and want to use it, then select [Change Settings] to select the
correct media or select [RIP Settings].

A2 What to use : RIP Settings or Custom Paper xx ?
Each time you load a media Roll, the printer will prompt a message to select the media Type. You have 2 possibilities:
choosing RIP settings or .select a Custom Paper xx.
● By choosing RIP settings, you decide to manage all media settings and quality settings FROM the RIP. The image
and media settings previously set in the RIP software will be sent to the printer.
● By choosing a Custom Paper xx, you decide that the printer manages all media settings. The RIP will send only
the print job and the resolution chosen in the RIP software.
STEP B Customizing [RIP Settings]
Note : [RIP Settings] will apply all the following settings for any type of media loaded and used
B1. Platen Gap
RIP Settings :
● Platen Gap (1,5, 2, 2,5)
● Head Alignment
● Roll Type (Side In, Side Out)
● Tension Measurement
● Media Tension
The platen gap is the gap between the print head surface and the media and not the Media and the print head.
Depending on the media thickness, set the correct platen gap to avoid head strike. On SC‐S30600/610, you can set
the gap from 1.5 (std value) to 2.5. For all media, the platen gap will have an important effect on print quality.
Tips : If you wish to optimise the output quality, try to use other platen gap settings.
Tiips : it’s nott an approprriate counterrmeasure too increase thhe platen gaap when youu face recurrrent head sttrikes.
Moree you increa ase the plateen gap, morre you decre ase the prin
nt quality. Trry first to reeduce the tem

Note : uncorrect tension will modify the quality of the print. Each kind of media has different tension value. This
setting is also linked to [Media Tension]
Depending on the substrate loaded in the printer, you can activate or deactivate the tension for [RIP Settings]
selected. Periodically is recommended for most circumstances and is performed every 5m. The measurement value
will be done according the [Media Tension] setting. If the Tension Measurement is turned to Off, the substrate
system will roll more media than needed to avoid tension. This will result of a long length above the length feed.

According to Tension Measurement, the sequence will check [Periodically], [Every Page] or [Off] the tension value
selected in this section. You can choose from 0 (no tension) to 40 (high tension). Depending on the media type, we
suggest you to use these tension chart values :
Media Type TENSION
Thin Film 5‐10
Polyester, Vinyl 15‐20
Banner, Canvas 25‐35
In the case you don’t really know what is the best tension settings, please refer to this generic rule :
‐ For thin media = low tension
‐ for medium media = medium tension
‐ thick and heavy media = high tension
Reminder : each time [RIP Settings] is selected, all media loaded with this selection will use the settings described
above. For more options, please refer to your RIP software to apply additional media settings.

C6. Media Suction
Media Suction

The suction is an important setting to keep the stability of the media during the prints. For most media type, use a

The head movement will limit the carriage pass to the image size (Data Width) or to the Printer Width (Printer Full

Range : OFF, 2‐8
Current: OFF
[OK] Done [↖] Back
The multi‐strike printing (or multiple layers) settings will allow to add ink density, especially for transparent media, e.g

E. Color consistency
Exaggerated examples of Color Consistency
Depending on your media settings, some color consistency issue may happen. The main causes are :
1) wrong head movements settings
2) wrong heaters settings
3) ink Sedimentation (very low usage of the printer)
Head Movement :
Head Movement
Data Width
Printer Full Width
[OK] Done [↖] Back
The head movement setting changes the range in which the print head moves during printing : [data width] or [Full
width].
a) [Data Width] will restrict the print head movement within the image range (quicker mode)
b) [Full width] the print head will move to the full width independently of the image size (longer mode)
To have regular color quality, it’s suggested to use [Full Width]. For quicker printing and large wall paper application,
use the [Data Width].
