The influence of the catholic church has overtaken the teaching of sexual education and health
in schools. Parents, teachers and students were unhappy with what students were being taught
in schools, so it was brought to a vote. Many teachers and parents lobbied, saying that the
teachings were immoral and forced students to embrace an education that went entirely against
their own “morality or faith position.” Many people expect nothing to change with the curriculum
being taught. This relates to my project because it's showing that many students are being held
back from receiving a proper, comprehensive sex education, which they need in order to
prepare themselves for safe and healthy future.

This relates to my topic because it's showing that states are beginning to understand and
recognise the importance of comprehensive sexual education to further help their students.
In this article, the state of Texas, the last few months have been littered with panels from
parents, medical professionals and teachers in order to reform the sexual education cirriculum,
which will be for the first time since the 90’s. The amount of support given to those who are
changing this has been phenomenal, and in 2022, classes will begin to start teaching
comprehensive sexual education for seventh and eighth graders. They will learn about forms of
birth control, but not LGBTQ+ educations.
