- previously tackled: words describing personality, discussion about relationships, ways
in which people keep in touch, multiple-matching reading activity, writing an
informal letter to a friend

Description of the lesson:


Title: Relationships
Skills: speaking, writing
Aims: by the end of the class Students will be able to
- to describe the personality of people and themselves
- to read for general and specific information
- to extract the main ideas from a text
- to develop reading comprehension skills
- to use the acquired vocabulary to describe people

Aids: electronic devices, coursebook, notebooks

Activity 1: Warm-up (estimated time: 3 minutes)


Aims: to create a relaxed atmosphere; to engage students
Teacher greets Students and asks them to watch a short video. The T shares her screen
and shows a video on YouTube:

Activity 2: feedback (5 minutes)


Aims: to revise previously learnt vocabulary (types of relationships)
The T asks the Ss to access www.quizizz.com for a multiple-choice quiz.

Activity 3: pre-reading activity (5 minutes)
Aims: lead-in and raise Ss interest in the topic, share personal opinion
The T projects 3 statements and Ss have to decide whether the statements are true or
false.
Families are more important than friends.
Men and women have different kinds of friendships.
Not having friends can make you ill.

Activity 4: reading activity (20 minutes)


Aims: develop reading comprehension skills
The T names Ss or Ss volunteer to read the article. After they have read the text, the T
asks Ss to remember the statements and decide whether the author of the article has the same
opinion as the Ss.
Ss have to do a multiple-matching quiz to check their reading comprehension skills.

Activity 5: post-reading (2 minutes)


Aims: to read for specific purposes, understand meaning from context
The T asks Ss to skim the text and find phrasal verbs with up : spilt up, break up. Ss have to
decide what the meaning of these phrasal verbs is.

Activity 6: vocabulary (10 minutes)


Aims: to enrich Ss vocabulary
Ss have to fill in the sentences with the correct words to find new phrasal verbs with up.

Activity 6: feed-back (5 minutes)


Aims: develop writing skills using the new vocabulary
The T asks Ss to ask each other questions:
l. Can you think of three reasons why couples split up?
2. Can you think of three things you could do to cheer yourself up?
3. What kind of things can you look up?
Ss have to write short answers.
