Q1) Answer by true or false for each following sentences: (circle the right
answer)
- Pitch diameter is the distance between the pitch points between the threads. True False
- Friction can be put to use in the case of threaded fasteners. True False
- Pitch point is the distance between the flanks and the space between the threads. True False
- Square thread is considered difficult in machining. True False
- The single point cutting tools or taps and dies are used to cut the square thread. True False
- Unified screw threads have a 55º flank angle. True False

Q2) What for these following equations:

1. (Torques required for raising the load)

2. (Torques required for lowering the load)

Q3) Choose the correct answer for each following sentences: (circle the right
answer)
- Consider as a thread fastener : a. Clamps b. Presses c. Cap screw
- Nut is a part of: a. Rivet b. Bolt c. Key
- Part of bolt assembly : a. Tail b. Gasket c. Caliper
- Prevention leaks : a. Nut b. Gasket c. Washer
- Type of Power screw: a. Stud screw b. Presses c. Cap screw
- Type of Power screw : a. Through bolt b. Jack c. Set screw
- American national thread has : a. 60 deg. b. 55 deg. c. 66 deg.
- Top and root of thread are joining by : a. Crest b. Flank c. Bottom

Q4) Answer the following questions:

A) Differences between American and British thread:
The differences between American and British thread forms became a painful problem during
the Second World War, especially in manufacturing and repairing airplane engines ,in 1948
representatives of Britain, Canada and the United States agreed on a Unified Standard. In the
compromise the British accepted the 60° thread angle, and the Americans accepted rounded
roots and optionally rounded crests.
B) Comparison between Square and Acme thread:
 The square thread form is a common thread form for lead-screws.
It gets its name from the square cross section of the thread.
 The greatest advantage of square threads is that for an acme thread screw, the thread
profile is not normal to the screw centerline but is at an angle, α. The angle, α, is called
the thread angle.
For a standard acme thread, α = 14.5°.
C) Types of threaded fasteners:
1.bolt
2.stud bolt
3. set srews
D) Define Major Minor and Pitch diameter:
 Major diameter:
is the largest diameter on a threaded part, it is also known as nominal or thread diameter.
 Minor diameter:
is the smallest diameter on a thread part, it is also known as root diameter.
 Pitch diameter :
is the measured distance between the pitch points between the threads.
E) Types Power screw:
1.screw jacks
2.clamps
3.presses
F) Define Pitch Point:
 The position on the thread where an equal amount of distance exists between the flanks
on the solid part of the thread and in the space between the threads. Lead is the
distance that a screw travels in one revolution.
