I. OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson, learners are expected to:
• recognize how speakers and writers come up with strategies in sending their intended
messages;
• develop own style in writing and speaking;
• compare and contrast opinions with those presented in familiar texts.

IV.PROCEDURES
A. Introduction The learners will be led to analyze how people express their opinions by reading and
(1/2 day) answering the questions based on the dialogue presented in their SLM page 25.
Goal Orientation
• The learners will have the hints and background of what are to be discussed
and to be learned.
• In this part, the content of the lesson will be presented.
B. Development Learning Task 1:
(1 day) The learners will identify whether the statements COMPARE or CONTRAST ideas. (refer to
SLM page 26)

Learning Task 2:
The learners will identify the words or phrases that make the sentences in Learning Task
1 comparing or contrasting statements, then they will use them in their own sentences.
(refer to SLM page 26).

C. Engagement Learning Task 3:


(2 days) The learners will go back to the argument between Reina and Cecilia in Introduction
Phase on page 25. They will compare and contrast the claims of the two using logos,
ethos and pathos. They will write their answers using the table (refer to SLM page 28)
Learning Task 4:
The learners will copy the given paragraph, circle grammatical signals used to compare
and contrast, Then using a Venn Diagram,they will compare and contrast the two birds
(refer to SLM page 29)
Learning Task 5:
The learners will go through a debate piece to identify pure opinion by answering the
questions that follow (refer to SLM pages 29-30).

D. Assimilation Learning Task 6:


(1/2 day) The learners will read the text “Student Opinion: Zoos should be banned”. Then they will
evaluate the claims with the writer’s logos, ethos and pathos. (refer to SLM pages 30-31)

They will fill in the blanks with the correct terms relevant to what they have learned from
the lesson. They will choose from the word pool and write it in their answer sheet. refer
to SLM page 31)
