Introducing
Clean Room
Ceiling Systems
From Armstrong
A particle of dust can be a serious
problem in an area that requires
complete environmental control.
Armstrong Clean Room Systems
provide protection, performance
and peace of mind.
Armstrong Clean Room systems are
suitable for Class 100 applications
and have been independently tested
to ensure exacting performance
standards*.
All Armstrong Clean Room
HumiGuard™ Plus ceilings are
nonperforated and feature no sag
performance. A 15-year warranty
is standard when used with
Armstrong Clean Room grid.
• More Ceiling Options - Two, nonperforated
Armstrong ceiling product options. Material,
texture, noise-reducing performance and budget
options for maximum design flexibility.

• More Grid Options - Hot dipped galvanized

or co-extruded aluminum for installation,
performance and budget flexibility.

• Proven Performance - Meets ISO Standard

14644/Federal Specification 209E for
clean room systems

• Warranty - Limited 15-year warranty when

installed as a total system. See warranty for
details.

• Quick Ship Service - System components

are inventoried and available to meet stringent
jobsite schedule requirements.

* Testing of the ceiling system was conducted in an environmental

chamber following the methods established in Federal Standard
209E “Airborne Particulate Cleanliness Classes in Clean Rooms
and Clean Zones”.

Item #414
With the existence of positive pressure in the clean room
and the need to prevent contamination from entering the
room from the plenum, it is necessary to seal the ceiling
with either Mylar tape or closed cell foam gasketing to
achieve a Class 100 clean room. In all clean room class
applications, both gasketing and hold down clips are
necessary; the only varying factor is the percent of HEPA
filters in the ceiling.

Clean Room Grid:

• Norton’s closed cell gasketing (Type V764,1/8" thick
x 1/4" wide) is recommended; 3M’s #850 Mylar Tape
and #4718 Closed Cell Gasket are acceptable.
• Armstrong Retention Clips (#414) are required to
ensure a good seal. A retention clip on each side of
a ceiling 2' x 2' panel will maintain constant pressure
on the gasketing; for a 2' x 4' panel, 2 retention clips
at third points on each 4' cross tee.

NOTE: HEPA filters should be independently supported in seismic areas. The filter should exert enough pressure to compress the gasket, yet not so
much pressure as to exceed the system’s load carrying ability. Armstrong ceiling panel options should be specified as square-edge lay-in only.

Clean rooms are defined by class and the higher the

class, the lower the level of cleanliness. Standards for
airborne particles, measured in microns, and use of
HEPA filters will vary depending on the class of the clean
room. The cleanliness level is controlled by laminar flow,
constantly flowing the air along a parallel path, usually
vertical from the ceiling to the floor. For example, in Class
100 clean rooms, with vertical laminar flow, the entire
ceiling should be installed with HEPA filters.
