V. LEARNING ACTIVITIES
Example 1: How many 0.4 are there in 3.2?
Solution: 3.2 ÷ 0.4 = ____ 0.4
dividend
make the divisor a whole
number by moving the
divisor
decimal point one place to
the right
3.2 ÷ 0.4
= 8 Quotient
How many places will you move the decimal point in the divisor to
make it a whole number? 2
How many places will you move the decimal point in the dividend?

Steps in dividing decimals
1. Move the decimal point the same number of places in the
dividend and divisor to make the divisor a whole number.
2. Put the decimal point in the quotient directly above the
decimal point in the dividend.
3. Divide
4. Check the answer by multiplying the quotient by the
divisor. The answer should be equal to the dividend.
Steps:
Make the divisor and dividend a whole number by
multiplying both the divisor and dividend by the power of
10.
Divide the same way as dividing the whole numbers.
