First and General Communion

19 February 2011

INTRODUCTION

Reader:
Dear brothers and sisters, we are gathered today to sing our song of thanks and
praise to God Almighty, a witness to our everyday life, and who guided us to what we
are now. He has been with us and has let His presence be felt in our day to day
activities, in our struggles and conquests, doubts and uncertainties, success and failures.
We thank Him for all these and for the love we share, for the trust we place in one
another and for the growth of our school. Let us praise Him for his goodness.
As we start the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, let us all stand and join in the
singing of the entrance hymn.

LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

(Offertory Procession / Hymn)

Leader : Father, with humble hearts, we offer You these gifts. Through them
we are able to work for what is good and for Your great glory. Take Lord,
receive, all is Yours now.

We offer You these candles - symbol of our burning faith and hope to walk
with firmer steps through the lights and shadows of life.
4

We offer You these flowers - symbol of our complex and delicate

personalities perfumed by Your spirit and made meaningful by Your love.

We offer You these foods - symbol of bounties that nourish us so we can

perform the tasks You wish us to do.

We offer You these certificates and tokens - symbol of our acceptance of

Your will as Your children.

This offering of bread and wine are symbols that we love You and we are
Yours. We give ourselves to You and others without reserve.

PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS

Priest: Pray brethren, that this sacrifice may be acceptable to God, the Almighty
Father.

People : May the Lord accept the sacrifice at Your hands for the praise and glory
of His name, for the good, and the good of all His Church.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

Priest : The Lord be with you.

People : And also with you.

Pries : Lift up your hearts.

People : We lift them up to the Lord.

Priest : Let us all give thanks to the Lord our God.

People : It is right to give Him thanks and praise.

Priest : Father, all-powerful and ever-living God, we do well always and

everywhere to give you thanks. This great season of grace is Your gift to
Your family to renew us in spirit. You give us strength to purify our hearts,
to control our desires, and so to serve You in freedom. You teach us how to
live in this passing world with our hearts set on the world that will never
end.

For such great love we thank You with the angels and saints as they praise
You and say:
To be sung: Holy, holy, holy Lord,
God of power and might,
Heaven and earth are full of Your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
5

Priest : Father, you are holy indeed and all creations rightly give you praise. All
life, all holiness come from you through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord,
by working of the Holy Spirit. From age to age You gather a people to
yourself, so that from east to west a perfect offering maybe made to the
glory of Your name.

And so Father, we bring You these gifts. We ask You to make them
holy by the power of Your Spirit, that they may become the body and
blood of Your Son our Lord, Jesus Christ, at whose command we celebrate
in this Eucharist.

On the night He was betrayed, He took bread and gave You thanks
and praise. He broke the bread, gave it to His disciples and said:

"Take this all of you and eat it.

This is my Body, which will be given up for you."

People : My Lord and my God.

Priest: When supper was ended, He took the cup again he gave You thanks and praise,
gave the cup to His disciples and said:

"Take this all of you and drink from it.

This is the cup of my blood,
the blood of the new and everlasting covenant.
It will be shed for you and for all
so that sins may be forgiven.
Do this in memory of me.”

Let us proclaim the mystery of faith.

People : Christ has died, Christ has risen, Christ will come again

Priest : In memory of his death and resurrection, we offer You, Father, this life-
giving bread, this saving cup. We thank You for counting us worthy to
stand in Your presence and serve You. May all of us who share in the body
and blood of Christ be brought together in unity by the Holy Spirit.
Lord, our God, listen to our prayer. Send the Holy Spirit to all of us
who share in this meal. May the Spirit bring us closer together in the family
of the Church, with Benedict, our Pope, Angel, our bishop, and all who
serve Your people.

People : We praise You, we bless You, we thank You.

Priest : Remember, Father, our families and friends and all those we do not love
as we should. Remember those who have died. Bring them home to You
with You forever.

People : We praise You, we bless You, we thank You.

6

Priest : Gather us all in Your kingdom. There we shall be happy forever with the
Virgin Mary, mother of God, and our mother. There all the friends of Jesus,
the Lord, will sing a song of joy.

People : We praise You, we bless You, we thank You.

honor is Yours, Almighty Father, forever and ever.

ANIMA CHRISTI

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.

Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
Oh, good Jesus, hear me.
Within Thy wounds, hide me.
Suffer me not to be separated from Thee.
From the malignant enemy, defend me
In the hour of my death, call me.
And bid me to come to Thee
That with Thy saints I may praise Thee
Forever and ever.
Amen
