Dominat/Recessive and
Incomplete/CoDominance Dihybrids _____/ 25pts

1) The lubber grasshopper is a very large grasshopper that is black with red
and yellow stripes. Assume that red stripes are expressed from the homozygous RR genotype, and yellow stripes are
from the homozygous rr genotype. However, striped Alleles are CODOMINANT resulting in BOTH being expressed if you
inherit a heterozygous combination. The size of the grasshopper is simple dominant/recessive with Large (L) being
dominant over small (l).

What will be the phenotypic & genotypic ratio of the F1 generation from a cross of two heterozygous large lubber
grasshoppers, who have BOTH red and yellow stripes?

TAIL Bands Food washing .

2) Racoons have rings around their tails and a habit of washing their food in water
before eating it. Suppose that BOTH of these traits are controlled via INCOMPLETE dominance so that wide bands on
the tail are BB, medium sized bands are Bb, and narrow bands are bb and that washing all their food is WW, washing
some of their food is Ww, and washing no food is ww.

How many of each genotype & phenotype will be in the F1 generation resulting from a cross of two racoons, both with
medium sized tail bands and that wash some of their food?

In Turkeys a dominant gene, R produces the familiar bronze
color; its recessive allele, r, results in red color. Another
dominant gene, H, results in normal feathers; its recessive allele,
h, produces feathers without webbing, so it resembles tufts of
hair.

Two bronze turkeys with normal feathers were mated, and their
offspring consisted of eight bronze with normal feathers, three
bronze with hairy feathers, two reds with normal feathers, and
one red with hairy feathers.

In Zebras coloration is due to CODOMINACE resulting in a
heterozygous allele combination displaying both parental
phenotypes. Ears on the other hand are incomplete
dominance resulting in a blend of traits. (this is made up!!)

KEY:

Skin = B- black b- white Bb – black & white stripes

Ears = P – Pointy p – non pointy Pp – droopy

4) What are the genotype & phenotype of the offspring created from two black & white striped zebras, one with
pointy ears and the other with droopy ears?

5) In Dragons, the ability to breathe Fire (F) and having Black scales (B) is
controlled by a Dominant allele. Smoke breath (f) and yellow scales (b) are recessive. However, Scale color is an
incomplete dominant trait and the heterozygous trait is RED.

What are the phenotypes ONLY of the children of a Red, homozygous fire breathing dragon and a yellow, smoke
breathing dragon?

EXTRA CREDIT ** (+3 pts):

Snow leopards live in the high reaches of the Himalayas and have several
adaptations to deal with living most of the time in snow. They have wide
paws with hair between the toes to allow them to run on top of the snow
crust. Assume that wide paws (W) and hair between the toes (T) are both
dominant traits and are on the SAME chromosome.

Suppose that two snow leopards, heterozygous for both traits, mate. Suppose further that in the female, the two dominant
alleles are on the same chromosome of the homologous pair, while in the male, each chromosome of the pair has one
dominant and one recessive allele. What is the expected PHENOTYPIC ratio of their children?
