Application Letter

Definition: A letter of application, also known as a cover letter, is a document sent with your
resume to provide additional information on your skills and experience.

A letter of application typically provides detailed information on why are you are qualified for
the job you are applying for. Effective application letters explain the reasons for your interest in
the specific organization and identify your most relevant skills or experiences.

Your application letter should let the employer know what position you are applying for, why
the employer should select you for an interview, and how you will follow-up.

When writing an application letter you should include:


 First Paragraph: Why you are writing – mention the job you are applying for and where
you found the listing.
 Middle Paragraph(s): What you have to offer the employer – mention why your skills
and experience are a good fit for the job.
 Last Paragraph: Say thank you to the hiring manager for considering you and note how
you will follow up.

Sample of Application Letter:

Dear Sir,

I’m seeing your fast growing organization and I heard that your company has a good
reputation, so I would like to join with your company as System Computer officer.
I am 23 years of age and I graduated from Computer Science and Information Technology
Faculty, Gunadarma University, Jakarta, Computer System.
I have an excellent health, high motivation, good communication skill, computer skill, creative,
high loyalty, integrity, I am ready to work hard, and highly motivated to works every where.
Hopefully, you could consider my application and I am looking forward to hearing from you.

1. A. Social Function • To Apply a job to a person or a company written, completed with
structure and formed in official style.

2. B. Language Features • - Use Simple Present Tense • - Use formal language or not slang • -
Targeted subject line, include the job title and a branding statement • - Explain the obvious
reason why you are writing in opening statement • - Explain your accomplishments which
the company may need it to hire you • - Write politely, effectively, and communicative

3.  C. Text Structure


• - Sender: placed on top left. Insert full name, address, and date.
• - Receiver: placed on second top left. Insert full name, address, and company.
• - Salutation: greetings to the receiver / company.
• - Content: include purpose of writing application letter, source of knowing the employment,
skill that the sender has, the sender’s current situation, and the reason of applying a job.
• - Closing paragraph: include sender’s contact and the time that the sender can be reached.
• - Signature: the sender’s signature and full name under it.
