B I G G A Report | Caldy G C Profile | Nematodes | Multi-tasking machinery | Bunker Sand

It's not easy being a pioneer. But since their arrival in
1996, the John Deere line of Aercore Aerators, with
their revolutionary belt-driven system and superior
Flexi-Link design, have quickly become the number
one aerators in the golf equipment industry. Now, with
the addition of our tractor mounted Aercore 2000, the
bar for productivity has been raised even higher. Like
the tractor mounted 1500 and 1000 and the walk
behind 800, the Aercore 2000 produces a consistent,
round hole. This is due to the Flexi-Link, which is
attached to the rear of the tine leg and absorbs the
forward motion of the aerator, allowing the tines to
stay perpendicular while they are in the ground. As the tines come out of the
ground, the Flexi-Link pushes the tine leg forward into position for the next
stroke. W h a t you end up w i t h are quality cored holes up to 10 cm
(4 in) deep, with productivity up to 9.295 m2/h (100,066 sq ft/hr). To see why the
Aercore 2000 and the rest of the Aercore line have outpunched the competi-

Having listened to both Ian and to
Alistair Beggs, of the STRI, about the
best approach Tom went back to the
Board and talked about doing the
work over two years as a possible
compromise.
However, the key to the decision
to bite the bullet and do the work
over the course of one winter and
spring was an EGM attended by the
Course Architect, Cameron Sinclair,
who designed the new greens, and
Barry Cooper, of the Leicester
Drainage Company, who was con-
tracted to undertake the drainage
work.
"I think once the programme had
been explained to them the members
were very much on our side," said
Tom, whose own professional expe-
rience in Sales and Marketing did
much to ensure that the project was
"sold" in the most effective manner.
"Not only did we get the support
to spend all the money, the body of
opinion was that they'd rather not
do it over two years but that they
wanted to do it over one. This was
music to our ears because it was
where we'd started."
It was at this stage that the
Members' Loan Note scheme was
launched and the entire funding for
the project was put in place.
While relishing the challenge it
did mean a swift amending of the
plans that had already been put
tentatively in place.
Cameron Sinclair designed the
six new greens and J&JE Ely were
contracted to construct them to
USGA spec before Barry Cooper
came in to lay the drainage having
first come up with a plan which
looked like a cross between a map
of the London Underground and
the face of a weather beaten octo-
genarian.
"By the time we are finished over
18 miles of drainage will have been
installed - that's tne distance from
Hoylake to Chester," revealed Ian
"The greens were done first and
we finished them, and five tees, by
Christmas. Cameron, who also act-
ed as supervising architect, said it
was nice to leave a contractor
knowing that when you came back
everything had been done exactly
to spec," said Ian, who added that
one of the reason's Ely's had been
chosen was the wonderful work
they had done at nearby Hoylake.

exposed sites and slopes, especially if
these consist of light or sandy soil.
The sediment washed from them gets

How to Stop the grass growing from under your feet

L o n g h a n d account.
Trinexapac-ethyl is the active ingredient
in Shortcut that works by redirecting plant
growth. It specifically targets the gibberellic
acid site responsible for cell elongation in
grass. Not only does Shortcut inhibit vertical
growth but actually diverts plant growth
downward into the root system to produce
increased food reserves and lateral stem
development. This in turn produces a thicker,
healthier sward that better equips your turf
to withstand temperature extremes, moisture
loss, traffic and wear and even helps in the
management of Poa annua. American research
has also established that Shortcut can enhance
the performance of a fungicide when jointly
applied and has no adverse effect on seedling
development.

Amino-Sorb R (root uptake) and Amino-Sorb F (foliar uptake) are unique supplements that give turf
maximum protection and recovery from stress. Under such adverse conditions there is a greater demand
for vital amino acids than the plant is able to meet. Amino-Sorb overcomes this problem. The 18 amino
acids in each solution are all specifically involved with turf health, helping restore the nutritional bal-
ance. Use Amino-Sorb R in the spring and autumn, Amino-Sorb F throughout the summer.

GreenTek's NEW topdressing method
Easier, Faster and Smoother!
Get an Easy-Load to do the
hard work for you!
Who can afford to spend hours of backache just loading
a topdresser these days?
No One!
Not when you can buy an Easy-Load from just £91 per
month that will transport and load your topdressing
in an easy one-man operation. And with its massive
16" wide floatation tyres it's also the handiest
general purpose golf course trailer you're ever
likely to come across!

Rub-in faster with a Greens Groomer

If you're still using a metal drag mat to rub-in your
topdressing it's time to get onto the Greens Groomer.
The bristles of its 14 separate brushes quickly work the sand down
in between the blades of grass instead of scraping it across the
top like your drag mat does. So you get a better job done with
less passes and no bruising.

Polish the Job off with

True Surface vibratory rollers!
Finishing the job off is only the start of their usefulnes
Sure, the lightweight True-Surface Vibratory Rollers will make a supe
job of vibrating the sand further down into your greens to help save
it blunting your cutting cylinders. But that is by no means all!
They will also polish your greens for a faster ball roll, true up the
surface after aeration, and can be used instead of mowing the
day after spraying, or when your greens are stressed.
