The document discusses the impact of COVID-19 on street food vendors in India. It notes that the pandemic and resulting lockdowns had a severe negative impact on street vendors' livelihoods. Interviews with 50 street food vendors across several Indian states found that vendors struggled financially during the lockdown, with many unable to earn income or access food. While the lockdowns were necessary to control COVID-19, vendors requested more government support. After lockdowns lifted, vendors had to increase working hours to make up for lost income. Most reported income drops of 50% or more during lockdowns and are still working to fully recover financially.

Are you happy with the decision of the government or do you think that the decision taken by the government is not right for you ? = If you ask me about the decision taken by the government I’ll say both because emotionally I can’t see myself and my family in such pain and trauma because of the lockdown we have no access to anything . We are unable to sell anything and therefore we don’t have any money to buy things like food and medicines for our family but a the virus Covid-19 is very dangerous and life threatening also deep down we also think that the government has no other option other than this lockdown but I as a vendor request the Government to think something about us and provide us with food and rations for our survival. 5. How you increased your working hour ? = Between lockdown: No, we haven’t increased our working hours as it was not possible to open shops properly and their were limitations in time for For opening of shops.
