Corrosion is a constant, indiscriminate and costly enemy of metal parts, especially when packaged for storage and distribution. Volatile/Vapor
corrosion inhibitor technology is playing crucial role considering best and effective corrosion prevention practice. According to Wikipedia VCI films
& Paper protect metals both through direct contact and vapor action. Large Equipment/Assets are wrapped in VCI heat shrinkable film for long
term outdoor storage. As its new and growing technology many has unaware, this article will explain you about construction and applications of
this cost effective products made by using VCI Chemical,s.

1 WHAT IS VCI ?
A mixture of special chemicals that constantly vaporize and create gases which have anti – corrosion properties. These vapors form a very thin

protective film layer around the metal surface and prevent the metal from the corrosion action.

VCI chemicals dissociate into anions and cations with moisture as an electrolyte. These anions and cations associate with anodic and cathodic

reactive areas respectively on the metal surface forming a mono-ionic protective layer, making it inert for any further reaction such as

oxidation/rusting. Any loss of ions is replenished through further condensation of vapor ensuring continuous protection.

1.1 VCI Paper for Rust Prevention

VCI Paper is a specially matured kraft paper that provides strong protection against rusting even in adverse climatic conditions. Our VCI papers are

available in 2 grades; ferrous grade and multi-metal grade with/without PE coating.

CONSTRUCTION: VCI Papers are specially matured kraft paper with one side impregnated with high-tech multi-metal volatile corrosion inhibitors

(VCIs). The other side can be coated with polyethylene to impart the moisture barrier properties. The high-tech VCI chemicals used to make these

papers have a property of evaporating into the surrounding enclosure. The released vapour deposits on the metal surface and forms a protective

mono-molecular layer, which provides protection to the packed parts from corrosion. We make and supply anti corrosion VCI paper rolls and

sheets on a large scale on continues basis.

1.1.1 VCI Film for Rust Prevention

VCI film is a specially designed packaging material that protects metal parts from corrosion including rust, tarnish, stains, whiterust, and oxidation.
CONSTRUCTION : VCI film is impregnated with VCI chemicals designed for the protection of multi-metals against corrosion. It protects metals by

direct contact and by vapour action. Anti-corrosive VCI film is a transparent film which allows users to easily identify & inspect parts without

opening the package.

• VCI has unto 2-years of shelf life. The components stored inside it will remain corrosion free for up to 2 years and in some cases unto 5
years depending on the dosage of the VCI.
