Protection Application Example

380 kV OHL

1313 X(Z2), Reactance: According to the grading requirement in Table 1:

X ( Z 2) = 0.8( X Line1 + 0.8 ⋅ X Line 3 ) ⋅ CTratio

VTratio
X ( Z 2) = 0.8(80 ⋅ 0.21 + 0.8 ⋅ 17.5) ⋅ 0.2632
X ( Z 2) = 6.485Ω(sec)

The applied setting therefore is 6.485 Ohm.

1314 RE(Z2), Resistance for ph-e faults: Similar to the R(Z2) setting, the minimum
required reach for this setting is based on the RE(Z1) setting which covers all
internal fault resistance and the X(Z2) setting which determines the amount
of overreach. Due to more severe influence of remote infeed (faults beyond
the end of the line) on tower footing resistance an additional factor of
approximately 20% may be applied.:

X ( Z 2)
RE ( Z 2) = ⋅ RE ( Z1) ⋅ 1.2
X Line1 (sec)
6.485
RE ( Z 2) = ⋅ 2.83 ⋅ 1.2
80 ⋅ 0.21 ⋅ 0.2632
RE ( Z 2) = 4.98Ω(sec)

This setting is then applied, 4.98 Ohm.

1315 T2-1phase, delay for single ph. Faults: This setting was already applied in
Chapter 10.3 and is shown here again with all the Zone 2 settings. The
setting 0.25 sec is applied.

1356 T2-multi-ph, delay for multi ph. Faults: This setting was already applied in
Chapter 10.3 and is shown here again with all the Zone 2 settings. The
setting 0.25 sec is applied.

1317A Single pole trip for faults in Z2: This setting was already applied in Chapter
10.1 and is shown here again with all the Zone 2 settings. The setting NO is
applied.
