"CLOSE toOPEN Portfolio REVIEW VERSION CONTENTS ABOUT US ABOUT OUR PROJECT - Background of the study of ‘buffer zone’ in residential architecture - Case study of the site - Statement of the problem SWOT ~ Presentation and analysis of data - Architecture solution with buffer zone - Drawings TIPS AND TOOLS Throughout the workshop and teamwork , we have faced many challenges to first time reach anew software ; but with great help from tutors and trainers , we learnt much more than expected. Nevertheless , we would kindly note down some tips and additional tools we used to build the model in Archicad We believe with these TIPS AND TOOLS , we have solved out some important technical problems, and manage the model much more efficiently: - How to draw a correct GABION wall in Archicad - Convert models with plugin (from Rhino and Grasshopper to Archicad) - How to hide/unhide selected objects - Benefit from merging self-made models in Archicad: - Move/select chosen models easily - Potentially reduce file size Our portfolio might be improved with full version for the next round “Together to be “ ABOUT US THINH HUANG XUONG 3rd year student © thinhthinh697@gmail.com © 0121.448.3604 TOAN PHAM XUAN 4th year student © toanpham.design@gmail.com © 0949.604.088 CUONG NGUYEN DUY 5th year student © vietarish_morrison@yahoo.com © 0126.493.7093 ABOUT OUR PROJECT Case study of the site Masnoranesan) | io oie Ch oy ~ 74 ae ~ Ss Hochiminh city is now a witness to its own accelerated urbanization . This speedy process leads to a complicating mess of livable spaces and traffic system. In this case , we study a future house for a three - generation family of six immigrants . The house , with 11m in width and 18,5m in length , is located in the gap between high-density Pham Van Dong boulevard , and a noisy railway with no safety barriers The boulevard is newly built 2 meters higher than the old railway cote , which isolates and toughly cut the area into two parts in two different cotes. By this, the house might have faced many challenges at the same time. Our concern is not only on heat and noise reduction, natural ventilation and security, but also on how spaces could help this Vietnamese family keep a traditional lifestyle . Case study of the site Pictures of the railway , 2014. Source : Internet Solution ABOUT OUR PROJECT Solution Asolar survey on this elevation with Ecotect gives us colorful diagrams; base on them, we design an adaptive facade with specified pattern to reduce unexpected sunlight and heat impact. This also happens with other elevations. These facades potentially are the climbing frames for hanging garden, where the family could harvest or- ganic fruits and vegetables . The hanging garden tends to reduce noise and heat , purifies air and control sunlights into indoor space. As Second layers are space of swimming pool and hanging garden on roof,al- so help increase the humidity and lessen noise. ABOUT OUR PROJECT Solution CULTURAL Kitchen room, supported with dining space nearby, somehow is the most important space in the house, because it is the place where the Vietnamese women almost spend their most of time with,to prepare meals for the whole family. Vietnam- ese women, like mom, wife and later daughters, all play an im- portant role in heating up family happiness and connections. To support this typical tradition, kitchen should be a ‘buffer zone’, placed in the center of view from other places in the house ; also from the kitchen, the women would be more able to manage and take care of others, would know who is in and out of the house ,and would get more respects from oth- ers, etc. And,that would be a time when, ‘a house is a home’. Tips and Tools basket edge steel column 2a es = Gabion wall system plays an important role in the outer protection of the house, with the detailed structure in pic.0 . reinforced concrete footing stone fill As usual, we draw a rectangle with curtain wall tool, then added materials on its surfaces. The result did not display the correct ‘gabion’ with outer basket and inner stone. Only the basket material was displayed, but not ‘fully’ stone inside. To solve this, we draw a rectangular prism with Morph tool , paint it with ‘stone’ material. Then use ‘Curtain wall’ Tool to draw a cover around the prism , paint it with ‘basket’ material . The final model ,as a result , is our expecting ‘gabion’ . CONVERTING FILES FROM RHINO 2S. AND GRASSHOPPER TO ARCHICAD Archicad 19 connects directly to Rhino and Grasshopper through convert plugins. 1.Solar adaptive pattern of the facades : CONVERTING FILES FROM RHINO C AND GRASSHOPPER TO ARCHICAD Step 1: Copy the surface from Archicad to Rhino. Step2 : Applying Grasshopper in Rhino environment, model general elements and slit it into smaller parts for easy analysis. Step 3: Connect Grasshopper with Ecotect to analysis solar impact into numbers, then apply them to set up expected code for organising horizontal unit on the louver with diversed density. S un H i pic.2 peevededveaPpeedpecvese In ARCHICAD 19 ,when choosing ‘hidden’ property for the selected chair (pic.1) by clicking on ‘a’ button ,all other chairs are also hidden. So, to let only what is selected be hidden , we may use these following steps: Bt ete Create a new layer,pic.3, and name it ‘345_Hidden Chair’. SS ce Set ‘hidden’ mode by clicking on the ‘>’ mses) fi esrccen cra Be Ls as Reem button for ‘345_Hidden Chair’ layer . Then, select the object and add it on ‘345_Hidden Chair” AZ °* *tay 799 As the result, only the selected chair is hidden. We understood the model as an organisation of many groups of same-property objects,so then we created new layers with ‘hidden/unhidden’ property for each of these specified groups , ex: ‘345_GABION’ layer for gabion walls ; ‘345_CLIMB- ING PLANT_Rhino' layer for the facade climbing plants, etc. 345_|CLIMBING PLANT] Rhino Our team name Object name Used software tool By this, we were freely able to hide/unhide specified groups as expected , so that we could ‘expand’ the view more fully to achieve a greater management in our architectural aspect. In Archicad library , there are , at least now , not enough models to fulfil our wz demand .To reach closer to the design, we need to self-make some models with Morph tool in Archicad. These (self-made) models are groups of many separated parts , this is not easy to move or select the whole and united model,as in the left picture. To solve this, we managed to make these separated parts united, by these steps: Libraries and Objects => Save Section a. Object Not only easily move or select objects, but we could probably reduce file size. For example,we self-made a chair with Morph tool, then unite it as a model, save it as a file and compare its size to the separated- one’s size .The file size was not changed significantly. But,when the files are upon 10 or 20 chairs, things happened.
