1. Determine You’ve found an unfamiliar marine animal. How would you determine if it
was a vertebrate or not without dissecting it?

Bilaterally symmetry could be one of the features you look for, in addition to whether or not
the fish has a jaw.

2. Describe What are the main characteristics of the three major groups of fishes?

Protochordates are invertebrate chordates, and compose two of the three subphylum under
Phylum Chordata.
