Why are rivers in Southeast Asia generally brown

while those in Europe are crystal clear?

Because that’s where tourists take pictures, mostly.

Mur (Mura) river in central Europe, runs from Austria

to the south. I’m pretty sure that’s “brown”

This is somewhere in the Himalayas. Sorry, I don’t

know exactly where, there are too many of them

But most visitors don’t go to Austria (or Slovenia, or

Croatia) to visit a winding lowlands river and most
also don’t go to the Himalayas for the crystal-clear
streams either. The actual explanation is the river
bed, rocky beds give you crystal clear water and
muddy beds give you brown water, but both are
present on both continents.
It’s just that far more tourists go to the Alps for the
crystal clear alpine springs (very scenic indeed) than
they go to enjoy meandering slow-flowing rivers of
the European lowlands. Conversely, far more tourists
go to SE Asia to enjoy the cities, cuisine, culture,
beaches and … other things that don’t usually occur
near crystal-clear waters either and rivers there tend
to be muddy.

That’s all there is to it, really.
