Periodontal and Periapical Abscess – Rare Case

Introduction: Mixed buccal and palatal swelling is exceptionally rare. Periodontal abscess from
deep pockets associated with excessive bone loss can cause swelling of the buccal region. A
periapical abscesses of lateral incisors, which had been inclined palatally and palatal roots of
maxillary posterior teeth are source of palatal abscesses.
Case description: This study reports the unusual case of a buccal and palatal swelling. The upper
right lateral incisor and maxillary right first bicuspid were extracted. One buccal incision and two
parallel palatal incisions were performed.
Discussion: Only a few cases of mixed buccal and palatal swelling have been reported in the
literature.
Conclusions/Clinical significance: The postoperative period was without complications.
