BIOGRAPHY/LIFE STORY:
Ramon Obusan is a bicolano. He studied in University of the Philippines where he
graduated with a BS in Fisheries. In 1998, Obusan was commissioned by the Department of
Tourism in designing floats themed with historical significance during the parade for the
centennial celebration of the country's independence.

was a *dancer, choreographer, stage designer and artistic director. He achieved phenomenal
success in Philippine dance and cultural work. He was also acknowledged as a researcher,
archivist and documentary filmmaker who broadened and deepened the Filipino understanding
of his own cultural life and expressions. Through the Ramon Obusan Folkloric Grop (ROFG),
he had affected cultural and diplomatic exchanges using the multifarious aspects and
dimensions of the art of dance. For over thirty years the ROFG has created a niche in the
world of dance as forerunner of Philippine dance performed closest to its original form. The
ROFG has been one of the Cultural Center of the Philippines' leading resident companies since
1986 and has presented over a thousand performances in the Philippines and abroad.
HISTORICAL VALUE
Shares the unique way of life of our Philippine ancestors, through indigenous music, song and
dance
The dance is one of the many human experiences which cannot be suppressed. Dancing has
existed at all times, and among all peoples and races. The dance is a form of expression given
to man just as speech, philosophy, painting or music.

CULTURAL VALUE
Preserving indigenous Philippine art forms in music. Dance costumes and folklore and
restructuring and enhancing the art forms to suit the demands of contemporary theatre and
reates awareness and advocates for Philippine indigenous people’s culture traditions and
stories through attire music and dance. Obusan wrote Dances of the Philippines, a compilation
of all the researches he has done on Philippine folk and ritual dances. He also has the largest
collection of videos on Philippine dances.
