Methods of Teaching
Methodologies for Small Group

I. Objectives: At the end of the discussions, the students should be able to:
1. Identify the different types of approaches
2. Enumerate all the approaches used
3. Explains the importance of peer learning.

II. Subject Matter:


A. Topic: Methodologies for Small Group
Subtopic: cooperative Learning and Role Playing
B. Reference: Methods of Teaching. page. 93-98
C. Materials: laptop and projectors

1. Motivation
The teacher will ask the students “why teachers do group activities as method
in teaching?’ (the students will raise their hands to answer the question.)
2. Presentation of the Lesson:
Introduction
Children enjoy learning in groups. They interact with one another, share
common observations and in the end influence each other, either positively or
negatively. As they grow, they gain more and more experiences, thereby
acquiring updated knowledge and developing higher-order skills and values.
They learn to find answers to problems through their “shared “styles.
The teacher’s role in assisting them how to manage their learning
activities is crucial. Various techniques have been employed at different age
levels across disciplines, capitalizing on group learning, sometimes called
“peer-learning

a. Activity:
-The class will divide into two groups
-A group leader will pick from the lottery
-In ½ sheet of paper they will answer the question which their group
leader picked from the lottery.

Lottery:
1. What are the different approaches used in cooperative learning?
2. Give the at least 3 recommendation or suggestion in role playing.

b. Analysis:
1. List down the approaches used in cooperative learning and explain
each.
2. Differentiate cooperative incentive structure and cooperative task
structure.
3. Make an essay composed of 200 words why we need to study the
methodologies for small group.

c. Application:
As a future teacher why we need to apply this kind of method as
teaching method?

d. Abstract:
What do you think the values that can develop after having a cooperative activity and role playing?

IV. Evaluation:
Test 1: Identification

1. _________ They are involved in planning the topics they like to investigate together
with the procedure they have to follow.
2. _________ Groups of 3 to 6 discuss all their ideas about the topic. Then a recorder
summarizes the ideas arrived at to the class.
3. _________ The class is divided into four or five member teams, each member tries to
learn the materials and then help each other master the materials through tutoring,
testing one another or carrying on group discussion.
4. _________ the student will think his own idea about the topic and after that, each
students pair with another and the teacher asks the pair to share with the whole class.
5. _________ the students are assigned to 5-6 members. Then the topic is presented to
them and each is responsible for a portion. Members from different teams with the
same topic meet together to study and help each other learn their own topic. Then
each return to the home team and discuss with the members what they have learned.
