NATHAN: Hello everyone and welcome to the first episode
of the Complicated Podcast. Today we are joined by Adam Hussain.
The guests introduce themselves
NATHAN: So in today’s episode we are going to be talking
about how video games can influence young people to dumb and stupid things.
NATHAN gives his own opinion and invites the guests to
voice theirs.
NATHAN: So for those who don’t know, Grand Theft Auto V
is a real life crime simulator. The name of the game is a crime in itself. In the game you steal cars, kill people, rob shops, the lot. Grand Theft Auto V is the number 2 bestselling video game ever made. It has sold over 135 million copies as of this recording. And the majority of the audience is below the age of 21.
ADAM voices his opinion, a general conversation happens.
NATHAN: There’s a story of a kid who played GTA V, he
stole his mums car on the highway, which ended in a 2 hour police chase, he ended up on the wrong side of the motorway. ADAM voices his opinion and a discussion begins about the entire thing.
NATHAN: The thing is it’s so easy to access such violent
content these days, especially on platforms such as Xbox and PlayStation. All you’ve got to do is load up the game and its right there, you pull out a gun and kill people, you can steal a car, you can steal a plane and crash it. It awful some of the things you can do on that game considering how mainstream and popular it is!
Everyone gives their opinions and thoughts
NATHAN: I feel like things like this has what’s caused
modern dark humour, which consists of making light of horrible infamous events in history within the last 20 years. For example like 9/11, people making memes about it. And people even recreating events on the game. Frankly it’s disgusting.
NATHAN: Even other games like Call of Duty, one of the
most popular games of all time, has an extreme level of violence. Yet there are millions of young impressionable people on it. This is the thing, the amount of shootings in America by people below the age of 25 compared to above 25 is astounding. Experts sometime pin the blame down to Video games such as the ones we mentioned. What are your thoughts on this Adam? ADAM voices his opinion, a general conversation happens.
NATHAN: Grand theft Auto V is an extremely realistic
game, and I feel like it can influence young people to do really dumb things, for example there’s a thing in the game called sticky bombs, and people throw sticky bombs onto cars and drive around and detonate the stickbombs, blowing up the car and the everyone in the blast radius.
NATHAN: Luckily there are much better safer games such as
Minecraft, or even racing games, there are plenty of other options than such as violent games. Theres so many violent games, Call Of Duty, GTA, even Fortnite, which is rated at a 12 age rating is extremely violent, there’s no graphic content in the game but the intention of killing people is still in the game. Back when I was 12 I was playing games like Forza and stuff. What did you play when you were like 10 or 11 Adam? ADAM voices his opinion, a general conversation happens.
NATHAN: Well that’s all we have time for today, thank you very much for listening and we will see you in the next one.
