Sample Lesson Plan 1

 
AIM: use ‘will’ and ‘going to’ to express decisions about the future.
 PPP
1.
 Introduce topic of reading text – engage the students.
 Ask students to read a text, and identify the future forms ‘to be going to + infinitive’, ‘will +
infinitive’. Elicit meaning, form, pronunciation. Drill.

 Ask the students to fill gaps in a dialogue with ‘going to’ or ‘will’. Monitor. Check

 Ask students to plan a school party this weekend.
 Give example questions / answers
 Put them in pairs or small groups, and ask them to make some little dialogues using going to and
will, so they show they have understood the forms. Go round and help where necessary. Ask
them to read out the dialogues to the class and ask the students to say if they have used ‘going
to’ and ‘will’ correctly.
 
Sample Lesson Plan 2
 
AIM: extend knowledge of job-related vocabulary and context to practice it in.
 
TTT
1. 
 A-Z of jobs game. Ask 1 student to say the name of a job beginning with A, then the next one a
job beginning with B, and the next C and so on – each one has 5 seconds to think of a new word.
Last one remaining is the winner. Write the words on the board.
 Now ask them if there are any jobs there that were not mentioned – add to the board.
 Ask students what jobs they would like to do in the future.

 Introduce text where young people discuss jobs they would like to do in the future.
 Ask students to say what jobs are being talked about from a list of possible job words. Monitor /
elicit / check understanding.
 
3.
 Show pictures of all jobs talked about. Students recall the names.
 Students work in partners and compare what they jobs they want to do in the future. They
report back on the most popular jobs.

AIM: use appropriate language to plan a night out
TBL

1.

 Show sts pictures of a night out in a restaurant / bar and ask them where they go to have a good
night out.
 Brainstorm words/phrases onto the board related to the topic: people / verbs / feelings etc.
 Introduce the listening of two people planning a night out. Gist / Detail / Language Questions.
 Tell them that they are going to plan a class night out and give them a few minutes to think it
over.

 Students plan the night in pairs. Match with another pair to discuss their ideas and any
similarities and differences.

 Each pair rehearses presenting their night out. Teacher monitors and notes down language
points to teach later.

 Class listen to the plans. Ask questions.


 Teacher gives feedback on the content and quickly reviews what was suggested. Students vote
and choose one of the nights out.

3.

 Write on the board five good phrases used by the students during the task and five incorrect
phrases/sentences from the task without the word that caused the problem. Students discuss the
meaning and how to complete the sentences.
 Hand out the tape script from the listening and ask the students to underline the useful words
and phrases.
 Highlight any language you wish to draw attention to e.g. language for making suggestions,
collocations etc.
 Students write down any other language they wish to remember.

 AIM: Teach the present continuous

a. Tell students they will study the present continuous today.
b. Explain the form and spelling of the present continuous.
b. Ask students to do a worksheet from a grammar book. T gives correct answers.

a. Charades game: Students mime an activity (e.g. ‘running’)

b. Students write sentences in their notebooks about what they are doing after school.
c. Teacher monitors and checks.

a. Teacher gives students a text from the course book on Italian cuisine
b. Students answer gist, detail questions in the book
c. Students highlight all –ing words in the text.
