R28-29: 24 sc [24] (2 rounds)

Cut a piece of the plastic canvas that has exactly the size of the tail. It should just fit
in there and may stretch out the tail a bit (see the picture below). Put the plastic
canvas inside the tail.
R31-33: 18 sc [18] (3 rounds)
R34: (2 sc, inc) x6 [24]
R35: (3 sc, inc) x6 [30]
R36: (4 sc, inc) x6 [36]
R37: 36 sc [36]
Finish off with a sl.st. and leave a long end. Fill up the tail very lightly with fiberfill.
Place some on top of the plastic canvas and some below, but not too much. The tail
should be flat, but soft. Use the button pins to find a nice position for the tail on the
body. The tail is placed exactly in the centre of the platypus’ bottom.

Bill

R1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
R2: inc x 6 [12]
R3: (1 sc, inc) x6 [18]

R18: (4 sc, inc) x6 [36]
R19: 36 sc [36]
Finish off with a sl.st. and leave a long
end. Similarly as with the tail, cut a piece
of the plastic canvas that has exactly the size of the bill and place it inside the bill
(see the pictures). Fill up the bill very lightly with fiberfill above the plastic canvas. Use
button pins to find the right position for the bill on the head. The bill is placed in the
centre of the head.

Flippers front legs

In grey:
R1: Fold the legs in two. Make sure that you make a left and right leg. Start once with
the tail from the beginning of R1 from the leg pointing to the right (see figure 1
below) and once to the left. Crochet the two sides from R1 from the leg together
with 5 sc [5] (see figure 2 below)
R2: 1 ch, turn, 5 sc in front loop only, turn, continue with 5 sc on the backside in front
loop only (see figure 3 below), so a new ring is formed (see figure 4 below). Close this
ring with a sl.st. [10]
R3: (1 sc, inc) x5 [15]
R4: 15 sc [15]
R5: (2 sc, inc) x5 [20]
R6-7: 20 sc [20]
R8: (3 sc, inc) x5 [25]
R9: 25 sc [25]
R10: Fold the flipper in two and crochet the two sides together with (2 sc, 1 sl.st.) x4
[12]
Fasten off and weave in the end. Fill up the leg with fiberfill. Embroider stripes on the
flippers in off white. Use pins to find the right position for the front legs. They are
placed between round 36 and 48 from the head/body. The part of the leg with the
hdc’s should face the tail.

Finish off with a sl.st. and leave a long end.

Flippers hind legs

Same as flippers on front legs. Again, start once with the tail from the beginning of R1
from the leg pointing to the right (see figure 1 above) and once to the left, so you
get a left and right leg. The hind legs are placed between round 65 and 75 of the
head/body. Here, the part of the legs with de hdc’s should face the head. Use the
button pins to pin the legs to the body.

if you like. Happy with the positions of all the body parts? Sew them to the
body/head.
