METHODOLOGY

1. Dissolving 1 g of dried cellulose in a solution composed of 40 mL

glacial acetic acid, 10 mL of acetic anhydride and six drops of sulfuric

acid into a flask. The sulfuric acid served as a catalyst for the

reaction.

The reaction will take place at 16 hours acetylation time in

different varying temperature (30oC, 40oC, 50oC) and concentration of

the sulfuric acid (catalyst) (1%, 5%, 10%) and also the substrate to

glacial acetic acid ratio (1:30mL, 1:40mL, 1:50mL).

2. The mixture will be poured in 400 mL of distilled water to stop the

reaction and filtered. The produced cellulose acetate was then

air-dried.
