How can society help EFL learners develop their English

society plays a vital role in helping learners improve their process of learning the
English language.Language and culture are two inseparable entities. Therefore,
language learning is at once a cultural learning. If the learners master the linguistic
elements alone he or she will be able to communicate through a language properly
unless he she maters the cultural element of the target language. Samovar, Porter, and
Jain (1981) emphasize: Culture and communication are inseparable because culture
not only dictates who talks to whom, about what, and how the communication
proceeds, it also helps to determine how people encode messages, the meanings they
have for messages, and the conditions and circumstances under which various
messages may or may not be sent, noticed, or interpreted... Culture...is the foundation
of communication (p. 24).

Government, social media, media, television, parents, family are all important in
developing students’ language learning . Cross-cultural communication or awareness
are not new to English langugae teaching. Teachers and learners are aware that their
society affect the process of language learning, and the soccial normes of the English
society have an essecial role in understand and learning English as a result accepting
these differences will help to avoid the problem of misunderstanding , and
degenerating into chaos, cultural shock or clash.

Teachers’ role is promoting awareness in the classrooms by being tolerant and

respectful of different cultural identities. This will enrich their classes, and
familiarize students with different cultures, discuss them and develop a critical
understanding. This fact alone would be a gigantic step forward towards cross-cultural
awareness.
