Martha Gellhorn: A Daring War Correspondent.

Martha Gellhorn, got birth in 1908, was a renowned and trustworthy American
journalist, war correspondent, novelist and travel writer, who in her entire writing
carrier, highlighted almost all the war zones through the pen that took place in her
Era. Being against the chronology of a war, she successfully drew herself closer to the
war affected areas and rose the curtains to let the world examine the fearful and
extremely injurious strategies of wars. This daring journalism made her the most
authentic, loveable and widely read war correspondent across the globe. In 1926,
Gellhorn got graduated from the John Borough School in St. Louis but in the same year,
she left the College without completing graduation, as she was highly interested in
journalism. She worked solely and spent her sweat to become a published writer and
her hard work paid off when her first article got published in a reputable English daily,
"The New Republic". In 1930, she determined herself for being a foreign
correspondent and went to France. She stayed there for two years to work at the
United Press Bureau in Paris. In between that, one of her co-workers maliciously
committed the crime of sexual harassment. She made the report on the issue and got
fired from the job. For regaining her journal responsibilities, she forced herself to
migrate some other European countries. She migrated and wrote for the newspapers
of Paris and St Louis in which she covered fashion columns for the renowned Vogue
Magazine.
The reason behind her authentication and popularity among the people was that being
in the list of highly reputable National Journalists, she never underestimated the
common people's circumstances and the faults of the ruling sectors that were
flourishing widely
during her Era. Apart from that, she refused to spend the ink of her pen in the favours
of powerful politicians and significant personalities. She never had sold her conscience
and behaved like an impartial and responsible journalist in her articles to let the voices
of the poor’s and oppressed, be heard among the ruling departments. She was fully
aware of the journalists' duties and assumed that their instance is like a clear mirror in
which the society and the government could clearly watch their entire attitudes and
working styles. She held belief that there should be no stain in the mirror of journalism.
Her articles were independent from all sorts of negative appearances and show offs.
They possessed lack of impurities, flattery and were extremely hard hitting to the
ruling departments that earned too much attraction and reputation among the people
and made her the most authentic war correspondent on the face of Earth. By her
transparent articles, she posed the real picture of the World in front of the people.
Due to this, the honest and impeccable journalists are being awarded on her related
name "Martha Gellhorn Award".
She earned the title of the world's widely read author by creating books like "The
Trouble I've Seen" and "What Mad Pursuit". She earned the reward and defeated the
male dominated society through her role of a dare and neutral war correspondent,
played during the Spanish Civil War, Second World War and Vietnam's conflicts. For
Gellhorn, there was not any notion of fairness in her writings, because she examined
that in between covering an incidence, a journalist should perform some hard analysis
and go to the root cause of the crime. A journalist has to perform investigation and
interrogation of the event watchers that would return the untruthful supplements to
the bad guys, as in most cases, the nature of crime is that it can't be committed alone
and you've to be in search of criminals being in the side of truth.
As far as Martha's personal life is concerned, she was reportedly fell in love with a
famous American Journalist Ernest Hemingway and became her third wife after got
married to him. In the last section of her life, she suffered some serious illnesses and
became blind. It's said that feeling extreme burden on her soul, she committed suicide.
